- Diners search TikTok by place: "slc food spots" had about 300,000 searches in a week, about four times the plain phrase "Best restaurants".
- Nineteen of twenty TikTok autocomplete suggestions for "restaurants in" and "best food in" name a city or country.
- Food creators made 14 of the 16 top-ranked restaurant videos we checked; the restaurant itself made one.
- Say your restaurant's name and city in the first sentence, put them on screen and in the caption, and tag the location.
- The Nearby or Local feed is live in the US, UK, France, Italy and Germany for adults who turn on precise location; TikTok GO does not take restaurant bookings in the US yet.
People find TikTok restaurants by searching a place, not a cuisine: "restaurants in boston", "best food in atlanta", "okc food spots". If you run a restaurant or cafe, post short videos that say your restaurant's name and your city out loud, put both on screen and in the caption, and tag the location, so those searches can match you.
That comes from TikTok's own search numbers, pulled on 27 September 2026. "slc food spots" got about 300,000 searches in a week, four times the plain phrase "Best restaurants". And food creators, not restaurants, made 14 of the 16 top-ranked restaurant videos we checked. Below: the searches, then ten videos to answer them.

TikTok restaurants: what diners search before they go
We searched "restaurant", "best restaurants", "places to eat", "food spots" and "brunch" in Creator Search Insights, TikTok's free tool (in the app and at tiktok.com/csi) that shows what people search. 7-day searches is TikTok's "Search popularity": searches in the last seven days, worldwide. Videos is how many videos TikTok has matched to the topic. The search volume guide explains both.
| Search | 7-day searches | Change this week | Videos |

Data: TikTok Creator Search Insights via TokConnect, pulled 27 September 2026. "Change this week" compares the last day of TikTok's 7-day chart with the first. "New this week" marks labels whose chart starts near zero because TikTok only just built them. Open the snapshot.
Two kinds of result sit in this table. A search phrase is something people really type, like "okc food spots", and its numbers move around from day to day. A TikTok label is a topic TikTok writes itself to group many similar searches, like "local places to eat". Its millions mean the category is busy, not that four million people typed those words.
The search phrases show the useful pattern. Diners search with a city's short name and the words "food spots": slc for Salt Lake City, okc for Oklahoma City, htx for Houston, 757 for the Hampton Roads area code. Five of the six city searches had no videos matched to them at all.
TikTok's search box agrees. Typing "restaurants in" suggested Orlando, San Francisco, New Jersey, Los Angeles, Queens, Kingston, Las Vegas, Boston, NJ and Accra. Typing "best food in" suggested Japan, Atlanta, New York, NYC, San Francisco, London, Paris, Dallas and Istanbul. Nineteen of twenty suggestions name a place; the exception was "best food in the world". How TikTok search works explains why that matters.
What the top restaurant videos look like
We pulled the videos TikTok ranks first for "best restaurants" and "hidden gem food spots": eight each, 16 in all. We read every caption and noted the length and style.
| What we checked | Videos (of 16) |
|---|---|
| Made by a food creator or reviewer | 14 |
| Made by the restaurant's own account | 1 |
| Made by a restaurant-ranking app | 1 |
| City or area named in the caption or a hashtag | 14 |
| Restaurant named in the caption | 12 |
| A pin emoji with the restaurant name or address | 8 |
| A first-visit review ("Trying the best new Indian restaurant in NYC") | 9 |
| Under one minute long | 9 |
Data: TikTok video search for "best restaurants" and "hidden gem food spots", sorted by relevance, 27 September 2026. Video styles were tagged by us from each caption. Snapshot.
The middle length was 56 seconds, with a range from 11 seconds to 2 minutes 42 seconds, so there was no single right length. Besides the nine first visits, the other seven each used a different style: a full-table menu spread, a walk through the dining room, a ranked list, a price reveal, a close-up of the food with no talking, a reviewer telling the owner's story, and a chef in the kitchen.
One number stood out. The only video posted by a restaurant was an 11-second close-up of dry-aged steak. It had about 1.8 million plays but only 2,503 saves, about 1.4 saves for every 1,000 plays. The reviewer videos got 9 to 51 saves per 1,000 plays. A save is a diner bookmarking the place for later. It is one video, so treat it as a hint: people save videos that tell them where to go.

TikTok's location tools for restaurants in 2026
Location tags and place pages
When you post, you can add a location, such as your restaurant's name. Tagged places have their own location pages, where TikTok now also shows booking listings, according to TechCrunch in May 2026. In April 2025 TikTok was also testing a "Reviews" tab on videos tagged at a place, Social Media Today reported. TikTok has not said when that test reaches everyone.
The Nearby, or Local, feed
A feed of videos from around you, first tested in Southeast Asia in 2022. It launched in the UK, France, Italy and Germany in December 2025, reported TechCrunch. It reached the US in February 2026 as the "Local Feed", again per TechCrunch. Viewers must be 18 or older and switch precise location on themselves. In the European version, a video can appear there only if the creator is 18 or older, the account is public, and the video was posted in or tagged to that city or region.
TikTok GO
TikTok GO lets people book from a video. It launched in the US in May 2026 for hotels, attractions and experiences, with partners such as Booking.com and Expedia, but not restaurants. Earlier, in countries including Indonesia and Thailand, TikTok worked with creators to offer restaurant vouchers, Tubefilter reported in March 2025. TikTok has not published a date for restaurant bookings in the US.
Do diners really pick restaurants on TikTok?
Some do, mostly younger ones. The best recent survey we found is by Toast, a company that sells restaurant point-of-sale systems. It asked 1,466 US adults who had eaten out or ordered food in the last three months, between 9 and 15 October 2025. About 14% said they discovered new restaurants through TikTok. Word of mouth came first, at 38%. Among Gen Z, 38% named TikTok as their favourite way to find somewhere new, as reported by PMQ Pizza.
Toast sells to restaurants, and the coverage does not give the Gen Z sample size. TikTok's own claim, quoted by TechCrunch, that 46% of UK users visited a local shop, restaurant or attraction they saw on the app, has no published sample. The fair reading: TikTok marketing for restaurants pays off most when your diners are under 30.
10 videos a restaurant can post this week
These restaurant TikTok ideas each copy a style that ranked in our pull. The quoted line is what you say in the first three seconds, with your own name, city and dish. None guarantees views; they give search a clear match.
- The first visit, filmed like a guest. The most common ranking style (9 of 16). Hook: "If you're in [city] and want [dish], this is where you go."
- The price reveal. Show the full order, then the bill. Hook: "Everything on this table at [restaurant] cost $[amount]."
- Order one of everything. The whole menu, or one section of it, on one table. Hook: "We ordered every [taco] at [restaurant] in [neighbourhood]."
- The room at its best hour. A slow walk from the door to the best table. Hook: "This is [restaurant], [city], at 8pm on a Friday."
- The close-up, with words. Keep the sizzle, but add your name and city on screen; the silent close-up in our pull got few saves. Text: "[Dish] at [restaurant], [city]."
- Answer your city's search. Use the exact words people type. Hook: "[City shorthand] food spots: here's one you keep driving past."
- The owner story. A reviewer's version ranked for "hidden gem food spots". Tell yours. Hook: "I opened [restaurant] in [year] with [one detail]."
- How the signature dish is made. Hook: "Here's how the [dish] at [restaurant] gets made, start to finish."
- Brunch, specifically. "brunch" had about 910,000 searches in a week, and TikTok's search data tied no videos to that exact search. Hook: "Brunch in [city]: what to order at [restaurant]."
- Your menu, ranked. Hook: "Our top four dishes, ranked by what regulars order most."
Post with the location tag on, so the video can reach your place page and the Nearby feed where it exists. Since creators made 14 of the 16 ranking videos, invite local food creators in too. Content gaps shows how to find searches with few videos, and TikTok marketing for small business covers the rest of the plan.
A beautiful plate with no name and no city can't match "restaurants in boston" or "htx food spots". Search can only match words it can find: in the caption, on screen or spoken. The ranking reviewers named the city in 14 of 16 videos. Say your restaurant's name and your city in the first sentence, show them on screen, and write them in the caption.
How to find restaurants on TikTok as a diner
Search your city the way locals write it: "[city] food spots", "restaurants in [city]" or "brunch in [city]". Open the Videos tab and use the filters to show recent videos. Tap a location tag to open that place's page. Adults in the US, UK, France, Italy or Germany can also turn on the Nearby or Local feed. Before visiting TikTok-famous restaurants, check a recent video: viral restaurants on TikTok change, and a year-old review may be old news.
Check your own city's searches
The table above is worldwide, and your city's searches change every week. An AI agent connected to TikTok's search data can pull them for you.
Using TokConnect, search TikTok topics for "[my city] food spots", "restaurants in [my city]" and "brunch in [my city]". Show each result's 7-day searches, weekly change and video count, and mark TikTok-generated labels. Then pull the top 10 videos for the strongest search and give each one's length, style and whether the caption names the restaurant and city. Finish with five videos my [cuisine] restaurant in [neighbourhood] could post this week, each with a first line that says our name and city.

Frequently asked questions
How do restaurants get famous on TikTok?
Mostly through other people's videos. In our 27 September 2026 pull, food creators made 14 of the 16 top-ranked restaurant videos, and most were a first visit that named the restaurant and the city. A restaurant can post the same styles itself and invite local food creators in. Nothing guarantees a viral video.
How do I find good restaurants on TikTok?
Search your city the way locals write it, such as "okc food spots" or "restaurants in boston", then open the Videos tab. Tap a video's location tag to see other videos from the same place. Check that the videos are recent before you go.
What should a restaurant post on TikTok?
Copy what already ranks: a first visit filmed like a guest, a price reveal, a full-table menu spread, the dining room at its best hour, the owner's story, or how the signature dish is made. Say the restaurant's name and city in the first line. The list of ten videos has a hook line for each.
Does TikTok have a Nearby feed for restaurants?
Yes, in some countries. TikTok launched a Nearby feed in the UK, France, Italy and Germany in December 2025 and a Local Feed in the US in February 2026. It is for users 18 and over who switch on precise location, and it includes food and drink near them.
Can you book a restaurant through TikTok?
Not in the US as of September 2026. TikTok GO, launched in the US in May 2026, books hotels, attractions and experiences. TikTok has offered restaurant vouchers through creators in countries such as Indonesia and Thailand, but it has not given a US date for restaurants.
Is TikTok marketing worth it for a small restaurant?
It depends on who eats with you. A Toast survey of 1,466 US adults in October 2025 found about 14% discover restaurants through TikTok overall, while 38% of Gen Z named it their favourite way to find new places. If your diners are under 30, it is worth a few videos a week.
