Picking the product is the whole job. A week of filming the wrong item pays nothing, and by the time something reaches a top sellers list, every affiliate in your feed is already posting it. Almost every tool built for TikTok for UGC creators and Shop affiliates reports the same thing: sales that already happened. This one reads the other side. What shoppers typed into TikTok's search bar in the last seven days, which of those questions nobody has answered on video, and what the comments under the top videos are asking for.

Questions with no video

Search TikTok's topics for "perfume dupes" and list the ones with a lot of searches and no videos matched to them.

YSL Myself perfume reviews and dupes3,193,6570

For contrast, the headline topic "perfume alternatives and dupes" has 4,813,681 searches and 896 videos. Same demand, crowded shelf.

What the comments want

Pull the comments on the top "perfume dupes" video and tell me what people are actually asking for.

The most viewed result for that search has 707,066 views and 568 comments. Of the 49 comments on the first page:

  • 21 are questions.
  • 12 name a designer fragrance and ask for its dupe. Baccarat 540 and Burberry Goddess each came up twice.
  • 4 ask where to buy the one in the video.
  • The most liked question, on 400 likes, asks for a dupe for YSL Libre Intense.

That is a content calendar and an affiliate shortlist in one screen.

A zero in the video column does not mean TikTok search returns nothing for the phrase. It means TikTok has matched no videos to that topic, and that zero is the signal behind its content-gap badge. How the badge works.

How it fits your week

  1. Connect once. Sign in, copy the key, paste one config block into the assistant you already use. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Gemini all work. The connect page has each one, and Claude Desktop takes about two minutes.
  2. Ask before you accept the sample. Two minutes of demand checking is cheaper than a week of filming a product nobody is looking for.
  3. Save the answer with the date. Search popularity is a 7-day figure and it moves, so a dated table is both your plan and your proof when you pitch the brand.

The numbers come from TikTok's own Creator Search Insights and from TikTok search, pulled live when you ask. Search popularity is searches over the last seven days, global unless a country is picked; video count is how many videos TikTok matched to the topic. Full definitions here.

What it does not do: no posting, no scheduling, no ads, no transcripts, no private data, and no Shop revenue figures. It reads what TikTok shows publicly. It is an independent product and is not affiliated with TikTok.

Straight answers

"I already pay for Kalodata."

Then keep it. Sales tools answer what sold last week, which is the right question once a product is proven and the wrong one when you are trying to get there first. None of them shows what people searched for, or which of those questions has no video answering it. That is the other half, and it is a different subscription doing a different job.

"Search volume is not sales."

Correct, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. Searches tell you that people want to know about a thing and how many of them, not that they will buy. Use it to pick what to film and what to say, then use the affiliate center and your own GMV to decide what to keep pushing.

"Does this put my Shop account at risk?"

Your TikTok and Shop accounts are not involved. You connect with a TokConnect key, never your TikTok login, and nothing posts, messages or automates anything on your profile. What comes back is the public data TikTok already shows creators in search and in Creator Search Insights.

"I have the affiliate center for free."

The affiliate center shows you the catalogue, your commissions and what has already sold. It has no search data at all, no export of demand, and no way for an AI assistant to read it while it writes your script or your pitch.

The plan that fits

One tool call is one credit. A product check like the three above runs 8 to 12 credits: a couple of topic searches, a video search, one or two comment pulls at fifty comments each. Vet four products a week and you are near 200 credits a month, so the 100 free credits are a trial, not a workflow. Starter at $49 a month, with 1,000 credits, covers that pace and leaves room for a deeper dig when a brand call is booked. Growth only makes sense if you research daily or for several accounts. Compare the plans.

Guides for affiliate and UGC creators

Questions affiliate and ugc creators ask

What is the TikTok product research tool?

There isn't one tool. TikTok gives you two halves for free: the affiliate center for the catalogue, commission rates and your own sales, and Creator Search Insights for what people are searching. Third-party tools like Kalodata, FastMoss and EchoTik read the sales side in more detail. None of them exports the search side, which is what TokConnect does.

Does this show GMV, units or commission?

No. It reads TikTok's search and Creator Search Insights data: 7-day search counts, popularity scores, content-gap flags, videos, creators, hashtags and comments. For revenue numbers you still use the affiliate center or a Shop analytics tool. The two answer different questions.

Do I need 1,000 followers to be a TikTok affiliate?

TikTok sets the eligibility rules in the affiliate center and they differ by market and change over time, so check yours there. Search demand does not care either way: a topic with 4 million searches and no videos is the same opportunity at 900 followers as at 90,000.

Can it tell me a product will sell?

No, and be careful with anyone who says otherwise. Search counts tell you how many people are asking about something and whether anyone has answered on video. Price, commission, reviews and your own delivery decide the sale. Use the search side to pick what to film and what to say in it.
