TokConnect shows product teams where TikTok demand runs ahead of the shelf: searches with no videos, fad-or-steady curves, who is asking, what comments wish for and what TikTok Shop already sells.
New product ideas start as typed searches. These are 14 phrases people typed about high-protein snacks in the week to 8 October 2026. Nine of them have no matching videos, and each of those nine still drew more than 100,000 searches.
A search with demand and no videos is a question the category has not answered. For a product team, the useful part is what kind of question it is.
"doritos protein chips" drew 327,767 searches and "PopCorners high protein snack" 192,603. People attach protein to chips they already buy.
"protein fries" drew 233,723. Nobody has filmed it under that phrase.
"high protein snacks for women" drew 252,924 and "high protein snacks to buy at the store" 231,476. One names who it is for, the other says they want it packaged.

Find unmet demandA week's count can't tell you whether the demand will still be there when your product ships. The 180-day curve can. Three searches from the same aisle show three shapes.
Peaked at 5,368,056 on 13 April 2026. Later bursts in May, July and September never came close, and by 8 October the reading was 6.1% of the peak.
Read zero until 2 August 2026, then peaked at 1,207,228 on 26 August. Since then it has settled lower and kept going.
Held between about 100,000 and 210,000 at its monthly high for six months. Its highest reading of the 180 days was the latest: 339,497 on 8 October.
TikTok search popularity, global, 180 days to 8 October 2026. Each column is the month's single highest daily reading, scaled within its own card. April and October are part months.
Branded spikes tell you a launch got attention, not that the need will last. The steady curve is the one to build on: searches for high-protein snacks for kids, every month, and more of them now. For more on spotting a trend before it peaks, see the TikTok trend research guide.
Show the 180-day TikTok search popularity for [search phrase 1], [search phrase 2] and [search phrase 3]. Which spiked and faded, and which held steady?
Test fad or steadyTikTok shares the make-up of its panel of searchers for each topic. Two searches from the same aisle point at two different buyers.
People searching "high protein snacks to buy at the store" are young: 46.4% are 18 to 24 and 13.8% are under 18. People searching "high protein snacks for kids" are parents' ages: 85.8% are 25 or older.
That splits the concept. A grab-and-go protein snack is a pitch to people under 25. A lunchbox version is a pitch to parents, and it is the curve in Check 02 that is still climbing.

Compare the askersWhen the top videos for a snack are home recipes, people are making what the shelf doesn't sell them. The comments under those recipes say what the homemade version gets wrong, and that is the brief.
The first video TikTok returned for "high protein snacks" was a homemade protein bar with 5.1 million views. We sorted its 50 top comments by theme.
Bar length is each theme's share of the 11,574 likes on the 50 comments TikTok returned. Video posted 16 September 2026; pulled 8 October 2026.

Size the shelfPut together, the checks score a single concept: a savoury high-protein chip or fry. This is how a product team would read the sample.
"doritos protein chips" drew 327,767 searches and "protein fries" 233,723 in a week, with no matching videos for either.
Branded chip searches spike and fade. The steady curve is the broader one, "high protein snacks for kids".
Store-bought searchers skew 18 to 24. Kids' snack searchers are 85.8% aged 25 or older.
Protein per calorie drew 82.7% of the comment likes on the top recipe. Taste and allergens come next.
No "protein chips" listing passed 10,000 sold on the first page, and Quest fills 14 of 30 listings.
The sample reads as a go for a savoury snack that leads with protein per calorie, sized on the steady curve rather than a launch week. Your category will read differently, and the same five pulls will show how. For more categories to test, the TikTok food trends page and the wider TikTok trends hub update with fresh searches.

Hunting for products to resell rather than to develop? The TikTok product research guide covers that side.
Start with typed searches that have demand and no matching videos, then check each one's 180-day curve, who searches it and what comments ask for. TokConnect pulls all four for a category in one sitting. In our high-protein snack pull, "protein fries" drew 233,723 searches in a week with no matching videos.
Look at the 180-day search popularity curve, not the 7-day count. A fad spikes and fades: "doritos protein chips" peaked at 5,368,056 on 13 April 2026 and read 6.1% of that on 8 October. Steady demand holds a floor for months: "high protein snacks for kids" hit its highest reading of the 180 days on 8 October.
Yes, if you sort them by theme and weight them by likes. Under a homemade protein bar video with 5.1 million views, 18 of the top 50 comments weighed calories, fat or sugar against protein, and they held 82.7% of the likes. That becomes a spec line: protein per calorie on the front of the pack.
Each listing shows its price, rating, review count and a lifetime sold count that TikTok displays, with no dates or revenue. That is enough to size a shelf. On the first page of "high protein snacks" best sellers, 16 of 25 listings showed more than 10,000 sold; on "protein chips", none did.
