The TikTok trends of 2026 are younger than the year. We pulled 180 days of TikTok's own search history for the top organic topics on its trending lists in six categories on 21 September 2026. Twelve of the thirteen were under 55,000 searches a week in March, eight of them at zero. Only one, a freeze-drying meme, had a real audience in the spring. Everything else climbed to between 7.8 million and 22.7 million searches a week in August or September.
That is the finding most "tiktok trends 2026" roundups miss, because they list dances and sounds from a marketing report. This page uses the numbers TikTok shows creators in Creator Search Insights: searches in the last seven days, the six-month curve, who is searching, and which topics still have almost no videos. TikTok's own forecast for the year is at the end, next to the data.
How this page measures a trend
Every figure comes from Creator Search Insights, TikTok's search-demand tool inside the app and, since mid-2025, on desktop at tiktok.com/csi behind a login. Four numbers matter. Searches, last 7 days is the figure TikTok labels "Search popularity" on a topic page: a global count of searches over the previous week. Popularity is TikTok's 0 to 100 score for how hot the topic is against everything else. Videos is how many videos TikTok has matched to the topic; a low count is the signal behind its content-gap badge. The 180-day series is that same 7-day figure recorded each day back to 25 March, as far as TikTok's chart goes.
One rule shapes what you see below. TikTok's trending tab is padded with generated clusters: phrases like "viral dessert ideas with minimal effort" that show zero videos and share an identical 156 million-search curve with four other rows. Those are category-level signals, not proof anyone types that phrase, and on 21 September they made up 84 of the 140 rows across the seven lists we pulled. We skipped them and kept topics with matched videos and their own curve. The search volume guide has the full metric definitions.
The TikTok trends of 2026, by the numbers
Thirteen topics, two or three per category, ranked by this week's searches. The change column compares the average weekly figure over the first 30 days of the series (25 March to 23 April) with the last 30 (23 August to 21 September).

Data: TikTok Creator Search Insights via TokConnect, pulled 21 September 2026. Trending lists and 180-day series with every computed change and peak.
The biggest mover by distance travelled is the caravelle myrtle beach, a South Carolina resort. It averaged 323 searches a week in late March, crossed 300,000 in May, passed 2 million in July and peaked at 67.9 million in the week to 30 August. It is the only topic in the table with a six-month climb you could have watched happen, and its 15,884 matched videos show the supply caught up.
The biggest single week belongs to cristiano ronaldo merchandise and media. The series shows nothing recorded on 2 August, 632 million on 3 August, 1.77 billion on 4 August, then a fall to 22.3 million this week. That shape, a news spike with a long tail, is what most sports and celebrity trends look like here. travis hunter's wife is the slower version: monthly averages between 6,600 and 12,800 searches a week from March to August, then 22.1 million in the week to 21 September.
The steadiest topic is the oldest. freeze drying drake original averaged 2.46 million a week in March, dipped to 13,175 in August, and came back to 16.2 million on 20 September. Its 29,200 matched videos are more than the next four topics combined. Eight of the thirteen series record no searches at all before 3 August, the same date for all eight, so read their change column as "from nothing recorded" rather than as a measured percentage.
Food
Eleven of the 20 Food rows were generated clusters. The two organic leaders are jokes rather than recipes: api streak steak (22.7 million searches this week, peak 23.1 million on 1 September, 2,772 videos) and freeze drying drake original (8.6 million, 29,200 videos). Further down the list, viral cooking trends to test (14.8 million, 738 videos) and burger king bag original (28.4 million, zero videos) show the split between a phrase people type and a cluster TikTok built. The category refreshes weekly on the live trends page.
Fashion
Fashion is celebrity-led this month. drake jewelry collection went from 237 searches a week in late March to 11.6 million this week with only 124 matched videos, the thinnest supply of any topic in the table. elise wig (10.8 million, 997 videos) followed the same path from 158 a week. nyfw outfits is the seasonal one: nothing recorded until August, then 8.2 million searches in fashion-week week against 848 videos. Fourteen of the 20 Fashion rows were generated clusters.
Sports and fitness
Sports produced the two largest numbers on the page. cristiano ronaldo merchandise and media hit a 7-day figure of 1.77 billion on 4 August and sits at 22.3 million now with 5,779 videos. travis hunter's wife is at 22.1 million with 225 videos, up from a five-month baseline near 10,000 a week. Fitness shows up in the content gaps rather than the trending list: super push up (209,994 searches, 1,043 videos) and making progress in gym (200,699 searches, 1,213 videos).
Travel
Travel is the category where TikTok's list is mostly real: 17 of the 20 Tourism rows had matched videos, against one in the "all" tab. the caravelle myrtle beach (15.1 million, 15,884 videos) is the clearest six-month growth curve in this data. widow bay (14.3 million, 618 videos) appeared in August and is still rising as of 21 September. Below them the list reads like a booking site: angel falls waterfall (8.1 million), disney cruise kids club room (5.4 million), road trip travel ideas (4.4 million).
Gaming
Gaming's trending tab is the most padded after "all": 15 of 20 rows are generated clusters such as "fast ways to earn more wins" at 47.8 million searches and zero videos. The organic topics underneath are smaller and specific. uzi diamond light reflect (9.0 million, 846 videos) peaked at 20.2 million on 14 September and is falling. gossip fnf, a Friday Night Funkin' mod, is the only gaming topic with a full spring history: 42,210 searches a week in late March to 350,679 in the last 30 days, and 7.8 million this week.
Science and learning
Science questions climb fast and hold. still water vs normal water reached 22.1 million searches this week from nothing recorded in July, with 873 videos. how long is 1 light day peaked at 10.6 million on 26 August and is at 7.9 million now, with 4,638 videos. The rest of the Science list is the same kind of question: "biological levels of organization" (4.7 million), "anatomical position and directional terms" (4.5 million), "desert sand under microscope" (4.4 million). These are homework searches, the closest thing to evergreen on any of the seven lists.
The 2026 content gaps: demand without videos
A content gap is a topic people search that has few videos matched to it. TikTok flags them to creators as the fastest route to search views; the content gap guide explains what counts as a match. We pulled the first 40 rows of TikTok's content-gap channel on 21 September, 25 topics once duplicates were removed, with a median of 921 matched videos each. Grouped by TikTok's top-level category:
| Category | Gap topics | Largest by searches (last 7 days, videos) |
|---|---|---|
| Fashion and beauty | 6 | brown blush (357,707; 921), Best Bronzer (235,123; 763), Burt's Bees Lip Oil (186,106; 623) |
| Science and technology | 5 | powerful websites (348,165; 1,052), best habit tracker app (187,443; 824), best trading app (156,947; 1,526) |
| Sports and fitness | 3 | super push up (209,994; 1,043), making progress in gym (200,699; 1,213), badminton hand grip (76,723; 709) |
| Health | 2 | sea moss before and after (279,060; 729), best toothpaste for teeth (105,610; 1,318) |
| Vehicles | 2 | helicopter los angeles (20,314,637; 358), tesla plaid model s (241,572; 835) |
| TikTok's featured content | 2 | old and new pomni (116,288; 0), consistency over perfection (85,457; 26,654) |
| Finance | 1 | side hustle online (264,573; 12,411) |
| Parenting | 1 | motherhood lifestyle (246,874; 8,079) |
| Home | 1 | house for rent near me 2026 (127,312; 904) |
| Hobbies | 1 | mystery sack gravity falls (16,101,809; 0) |
| Quotes and psychology | 1 | short quotes motivation (47,795; 35,179) |
Data: TikTok Creator Search Insights via TokConnect, pulled 21 September 2026. Snapshot. The weekly list is at TikTok content gaps this week.
Beauty leads: three of the six fashion gaps are product searches with 186,000 to 358,000 searches a week and fewer than a thousand videos. Software is the same pattern. These are searches a brand or a reviewer can answer directly, in the topic's own words, and rank for within days.
Two rows in the table are news, not gaps you can plan for. helicopter los angeles jumped from 99 searches on 20 September to 20.3 million on 21 September, and mystery sack gravity falls went from 139,713 to 16.1 million in a day. TikTok's video count also moves: ten of these 25 topics, including Best Bronzer and best habit tracker app, showed zero videos in our 19 September snapshot, and nine of them show between 763 and 26,654 two days later.
Who is searching the rising topics
TikTok's audience panel splits a topic's searchers by age, gender and country over the last 30 days. We pulled it for three climbing topics. Shares are of everyone TikTok counted; "unclassified" is the slice it could not place, kept as its own row.
| Topic | Under 16 | 16 to 17 | 18 to 24 | 25 to 34 | 35 and over | Unclassified | Gender | Top country |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| the caravelle myrtle beach | 1.3% | 8.5% | 50.2% | 19.4% | 8.9% | 11.7% | 65.6% female, 21.8% male, 12.6% unknown | United States 99.9% |
| elise wig | 1.8% | 11.1% | 55.7% | 14.7% | 3.6% | 13.2% | 74.7% female, 13.8% male, 11.5% unknown | United States 99.9% |
| gossip fnf | 3.1% | 0.6% | 29.7% | 18.3% | 9.0% | 39.2% | 33.0% female, 27.2% male, 39.8% unknown | United States 35.0%, Mexico 10.4%, Philippines 7.1% |
Data: TikTok Creator Search Insights audience panel via TokConnect, 30 days to 21 September 2026. Snapshot.
The two US-only topics look alike: half or more of searchers are 18 to 24, two thirds or more are women, and 35-and-over is under a tenth. The gaming topic is the odd one out: searchers spread across five countries, 27% men, and 39% unclassified, which is common on topics with a younger or logged-out audience. If you are reading this as a journalist, the honest line is "TikTok reports about half of the searchers for X are 18 to 24", not "TikTok's users are Gen Z".
TikTok's own 2026 forecast, and how it compares to the search data
In January 2026 TikTok published TikTok Next 2026, its trend forecast for marketers. It names one theme, Irreplaceable Instinct, and three trend signals: Reali-TEA, Curiosity Detours and Emotional ROI (coverage in Media in Canada and The Drum). It is written for advertisers, describes moods rather than topics, and contains no search counts.
Next to the search data, one signal is visible and two are not testable. "Curiosity Detours" is TikTok's name for people using the app to search and follow questions, and the Science list is exactly that: 22.1 million searches on still water versus normal water, 7.9 million on the length of a light day, and a content-gap channel full of "best bronzer" and "best habit tracker app". "Reali-TEA" and "Emotional ROI" are claims about tone and purchase motive, and a search count cannot confirm or deny them.
What the forecast cannot tell you is which topics will carry those moods. The search bar does, about eight weeks ahead of the trending list: a South Carolina hotel, a wig, a steak joke, a footballer's merchandise, a science question, all under three months old.
How to watch these for the rest of the year
Trends in this data have a shape you can track: a baseline, a first week above 100,000, a peak, a tail. The caravelle topic took five months from baseline to peak; the Ronaldo topic took two days. A weekly check tells you which kind you are looking at. The live trends page refreshes weekly with the full lists, most searched topics ranks them across categories, and the Google Trends comparison explains why Google's tool will not show you any of this.
With TokConnect connected to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, this is the prompt we run on Mondays. It rebuilds the table above for the categories you care about.
Pull TikTok's trending topics for Food, Fashion, Sports, Tourism, Gaming and Science (20 each). Drop any topic with zero videos whose 7-day curve matches another row. For the top two remaining topics per category, get the 180-day search history and report: searches last 7 days, the average weekly figure in the first and last 30 days, the peak figure and its date, and video count. Then list the top 20 content-gap topics grouped by category. Flag anything that went from under 1,000 to over 1 million searches in the last 14 days as "news, not trend".
Works in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Gemini once TokConnect is connected. Get a free key (100 credits, no card) or see the setup guides.
Read the result the way this page does. A topic still rising with under a thousand videos is where a creator or a brand can rank this week. A topic that peaked two weeks ago with 30,000 videos is a story about what already happened. The search data tells you which is which.
Frequently asked questions
What are the biggest TikTok trends in 2026?
Measured by TikTok's own search counts on 21 September 2026, the largest organic topics were "api streak steak" (22.7M searches in 7 days), "cristiano ronaldo merchandise and media" (22.3M), "still water vs normal water" (22.1M), "travis hunter's wife" (22.1M) and "the caravelle myrtle beach" (15.1M). Twelve of the thirteen topics in our table were under 55,000 searches a week in March, eight at zero, so the year's trends are weeks old, not months. The full table with 180-day changes is above, and the live trends page refreshes weekly.
How do you find out what is trending on TikTok?
The primary source is Creator Search Insights, TikTok's search-demand tool inside the app and on desktop at tiktok.com/csi (login required). It lists trending topics by category with a 7-day search count, a popularity score, a video count and a chart going back up to 180 days. Skip the rows with zero videos and identical curves; they are generated clusters. Our trend research guide covers the other six places trends show up, in the order they move.
Is TikTok search data available to the public?
Partly. Anyone with an adult TikTok account in a supported region can open Creator Search Insights and see search popularity for any topic, free. There is no export, no history view beyond the on-screen chart and no public API, which is why this page pulls the same data through TokConnect and saves each pull as a JSON you can open. The search volume guide explains what the number means.
What is a content gap on TikTok?
A topic people search for that has few or no videos matched to it. TikTok flags these to creators because they are the easiest way to get found in search: you answer a question nobody else has answered in the topic's wording. On 21 September 2026 the gap list was led by "brown blush" (357,707 searches, 921 videos) and "powerful websites" (348,165 searches, 1,052 videos). See the content gap guide and this week's list.
Will these trends last?
The 180-day series say most will not. Eight of the thirteen topics record no searches before August, and the ones that spiked within days (Ronaldo merchandise at 1.77B on 4 August, now 22.3M) are already falling. The exceptions are slow climbers like "the caravelle myrtle beach" (five months from baseline to peak) and homework-style science questions, which hold their level. We do not forecast beyond what the series show; check the topic's curve the week you plan to post.
Where does this data come from?
Every number on the page is from TikTok Creator Search Insights, pulled through TokConnect on 21 September 2026, with the earlier 19 September snapshots used for comparison. Each pull is saved as a JSON linked under the table it feeds, including a derived block with every computed change and peak. TikTok's Next 2026 forecast is cited from TikTok's newsroom and trade coverage; we quote only its theme names.
