You have an idea, or a first version nobody is using, and the real question is whether anyone is looking for this. TikTok is the one place that will tell you, because it publishes how many people searched a topic last week and lets you read what they said under every video about the alternatives. TikTok for startups is not a posting strategy here. It is the cheapest demand check you can run before you build the onboarding.
What you'd ask on day one
Say you are building a budgeting app. Three questions, asked in a chat window on 19 September 2026, and what came back.
Is anyone searching for this problem?
Ask your agentI'm building a budgeting app. Search TikTok topics for "budgeting app" and "track my spending", show the 7-day search volume and video count for each, and then give me TikTok's autocomplete for "budget app".
| Topic | 7-day searches | Videos |
|---|---|---|
| expense tracking and budgeting apps | 4,444,566 | 156 |
| bank charges fees and spending tracking | 4,023,192 | 0 |
| personal budgeting and spending tracking | 3,266,179 | 0 |
| personal finance budgeting apps | 2,223,166 | 0 |
| snoop budgeting app | 229,685 | 0 |
| best apps to track spending | 87,026 | 0 |
Twenty topics came back across the two searches; those six are the ones about apps and spending. Autocomplete filled in the modifiers people actually type: budget app free, budget app tracker, budget apps for students, budget app for iphone, budget app review. Four of the ten results for budgeting app were named rivals, including dime budget app at 193,541 and empower budgeting app at 215,991, which tells you who people are already comparing.

What do people say about the apps they tried?
Ask your agentSearch TikTok videos for "budgeting app", find the one that compares several apps, and pull 30 comments from it. Rank them by likes and group them into complaints, feature requests and the app names people mention.
The video: one creator testing several apps, 679,734 views and 329 comments. The first 30 comments, ranked by likes:
- 6,919 likes. Someone cannot justify paying for an app that is supposed to help them save money. That is the pricing objection, at the top of the thread, before any feature request.
- 585 likes. A request for biweekly budgeting, because monthly budgets do not match how they get paid. A second commenter, 53 likes, says the app they use budgets by month instead of by paycheck.
- 473 likes. Someone who only wants charges categorised and exported to CSV so they can analyse it themselves.
- Named in the 30: YNAB three times, Monarch and Rocket Money twice each, plus Copilot, EveryDollar, Qube, Origin, and two people who use Google Sheets or Notion instead.
Two calls. That is your pricing objection, your most-wanted feature and your competitor list, in the customer's own words.

Where is there demand and no video?
Ask your agentSearch TikTok topics for "expense tracker" and "saving money app" with limit 20. List only the ones with zero videos, sorted by search volume, and drop anything that isn't about money or apps.
| Topic with no videos | 7-day searches |
|---|---|
| daily expense and savings trackers | 4,336,133 |
| savings goal and money tracking apps | 2,536,746 |
| personal budgeting and expense tracker apps | 1,872,212 |
| best apps to track spending | 87,026 |
| google sheet expense tracker | 77,992 |
| notion expense tracker | 77,892 |
A video count of zero means TikTok has matched no video to that topic, which is its content-gap signal. The last two are the useful ones: people searching for a spreadsheet, not an app. Your competition is a Google Sheet, and nobody has made the video that shows why an app beats it.

What it replaces
| What you do today | Tool | What it shows | What TokConnect adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Read threads to learn how people describe the problem | Reddit search, free | Real phrasing and real complaints, one thread at a time | A number beside the phrasing: how many people searched it in the last seven days |
| Check whether interest is going up | Google Trends, free | A 0 to 100 index relative to its own peak. Google says plainly it is not a search count, and low-volume terms show as 0 | An absolute weekly count per topic, from TikTok rather than Google |
| Look up what rival apps earn | Sensor Tower or AppMagic, price on request only | Download and revenue estimates from the app stores | What people search and say before they ever reach a store listing, at a price you can read on the page |
| Browse winning ads for creative ideas | TikTok Creative Center, Top Ads, free | Ads that performed in the auction, filtered by region, objective and format | Organic search demand, with no ad account and no login |
| Run a small campaign to test the message | TikTok Ads Manager, daily budget must exceed $50 per campaign and $20 per ad group | Paid reach and install numbers | A read on demand before you commit a budget floor |
| Scroll and read comments yourself | TikTok search, free | Everything, unstructured, an hour at a time | Up to 50 comments per call, sorted and grouped by your agent, in a file you keep |
How it fits your week
- Connect once. Add one server to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Gemini and paste your key. It takes about five minutes and you never do it again. The steps for every app are on the connect page, and Claude Desktop is the easiest start if you do not live in a terminal.
- Ask in chat, in your own words. The three questions above are the whole first session. Change the nouns to your category and you have your version.
- Save the answer. Ask for a table and paste it into the doc where your positioning lives. Every number is dated, because search popularity is a seven-day figure and it moves.
Where the numbers come from: topic volumes are TikTok's own Creator Search Insights data, the same figures you would read in the app or at tiktok.com/csi, and the videos, creators and comments come from ordinary TikTok search. Both are pulled live when you ask, which is why the snapshots above carry a date.
What it does not do: no posting, no scheduling, no ads, no transcripts, and nothing private. This reads TikTok, and TokConnect is an independent product with no affiliation to TikTok.
Straight answers
They may not buy there. They still search there, and so does everyone who has the problem you solve. The output you are after is the wording, not the channel: the phrases people use for the pain, the rivals they name, the objection that gets the most likes. That copy works on your landing page whether or not you ever film anything. If the volume comes back near zero, that answer cost you one credit.
Follower counts and view counts are vanity. A search count is someone typing a problem into a box, and a comment is someone saying what they want. Neither proves anyone will pay you, and nothing here should be read as product-market fit. It is the cheap half of validation; the expensive half is still talking to people.
So do not spend it yet. A free account is 100 credits with every tool unlocked and no card, and one tool call spends one credit. The three questions above cost seven calls in total. Run them on two or three ideas and you are still inside the free tier.
Keep both. Trends gives you a shape, not a count, and it zeroes out anything small, which is most early ideas. Reddit gives you language with no volume attached. What is missing from both is a number next to the phrase, for the platform where people under 35 search first. That is the one thing this adds.
The plan that fits
Free, 100 credits, no card. One tool call is one credit, so count your week in questions. The demand check above was three calls. The comment read was two. The content-gap sweep was two. Do that for three ideas and you have spent about twenty. The free tier is not a demo of a smaller product either: all 26 tools are unlocked on it. Move to Starter at $49 for 1,000 credits a month when you are running this weekly, tracking rivals and pulling comments on every new competitor video, which is where a hundred credits stops being enough. The full credit table is on the pricing page.

Questions app and saas founders ask
Can you really validate an app idea with TikTok search data?
It answers one part of the question well: whether people are looking for this, how many, and in what words. It says nothing about whether they will pay you. Treat a big search number as a reason to keep going and a near-zero one as a cheap warning, then go and talk to people. Anyone promising you product-market fit from a dashboard is selling something.
Do I need a TikTok account, or to post anything?
No. You never log in and you never post. This is research: topics with their search volume, public videos, public comments and public profiles. TokConnect does not post, schedule or run ads, and it is not affiliated with TikTok.
Are the search numbers estimates?
They are TikTok's own figures from Creator Search Insights, the tool inside the app and at tiktok.com/csi, pulled live when you ask. Search popularity is searches over the last seven days, global unless a country is picked. Not modelled, not extrapolated from a panel.
What if my category has no TikTok search volume?
Then you have learned something for one credit. A B2B category with nothing behind it tells you TikTok is not your acquisition channel, which is worth knowing before you film anything. The language you find in adjacent consumer searches can still be useful for your landing page.
