Every list of side hustle ideas you have read was written by someone guessing at demand. This one has the numbers attached. Each of the 25 below is a real topic people searched on TikTok in the seven days to 19 September 2026, with the search count and the number of videos TikTok has matched to it.
Those two figures together tell you something a listicle cannot: how many people want this, and how crowded the advice already is. "side hustle ideas" is itself a TikTok topic, at 193,703 searches and 1,866 matched videos. "side hustle for moms" gets fewer searches, 140,357, against 7,812 videos. One of those is a market. The other is a shouting match.
Read the tables the same way every time. High searches with a low video count means people are asking and few are answering. High searches with thousands of videos means you are late to the content, though not necessarily to the work.
How to read the two numbers
- 7-day searches is TikTok's own "Search popularity" figure for the topic: searches worldwide over the last week. It is weekly, so it is not comparable to a monthly Google volume. The search volume guide covers the difference.
- Videos is how many videos TikTok has matched to that topic. A high count is saturation. A zero is TikTok's content-gap signal, explained in the content gap guide.
A topic is a cluster of related searches, not one exact phrase, which is why the wording below reads like a category. TikTok reports one number for the whole cluster.

Eight thousand videos about a hustle means the content is crowded. It says nothing about whether your town has enough cleaners. Treat the video count as a measure of how hard it will be to get found on TikTok, not of how hard the business is.

Needs a skill or a licence
Slower to start, much harder for the next person to copy. Registering the thing is the easy part: the SBA guide to business structures takes an afternoon. The licence is what takes months.

This table is two businesses in one. If you want the hustle, make the video: TikTok has demand for the phrase and nothing filed against it, so a decent answer becomes the result. If you would rather build than film, the same rows are a list of tools and courses people are searching for and not finding. That is the closest thing to a free market signal an indie hacker gets, and it is the same move described in the founder workflow.
Check a side hustle before you start it
Four things to look at, in this order, before you spend a weekend on any of the online business ideas above.
- The ratio, not the number. Divide videos by thousands of searches. Dog walking sits at 0.04 videos per thousand searches. Pressure washing sits at 12.8. Low means you can still be found.
- What people are actually asking. "what is dropshipping" at 344,303 searches is a beginner question. Beginner questions mean the buyers are beginners, which changes what you can sell them.
- The comments under the top video. They will tell you what people tried, what it cost and why they quit. That is your competitive research and your pricing research in one scroll.
- Your own market. Search volume is global unless you filter it. A hustle with 3M worldwide searches can still have four customers in your town.
When money starts arriving, the IRS starting a business page is the next thing to read. Most of the hustles above become self-employment income on day one.
Search TikTok topics for these side hustles: [list five]. For each, give me the 7-day searches, the video count and the videos-per-thousand-searches ratio, sorted with the least saturated first. Then flag any topic with under 50 videos, find the most-liked video for the top one, and pull 30 comments telling me what people complain about and what they say it costs to start.
If none of the 25 fit, work from the niche level instead: the niches guide ranks whole categories by how much demand is going unanswered.
What these numbers do not tell you
Search interest is not income. The 4,499,949 people who searched "Lessons from growing a side hustle" last week, against zero matched videos, are looking for a story, and stories are cheap to search and expensive to live.
The numbers also miss local supply completely. TikTok can tell you that lawn care is under-covered as content. It cannot tell you that three companies already mow every lawn on your street.
What the data does well is kill ideas fast. Ten minutes of searching tells you whether anyone is looking, in which words, and how loud the room already is. Spend the time you save on the part no dataset covers: finding the first person willing to pay you.
Frequently asked questions
What is the most profitable side hustle?
Search data cannot rank profit, and anyone ranking it from a blog post is guessing. What it can tell you is where demand outruns supply. On 19 September 2026 the widest gaps between searches and content were voice acting (4,454,835 searches, 144 videos), dog walking (3,219,477 against 132), lawn care (2,879,759 against 318) and vending machines (2,224,467 against 184). Margin still depends on your rates, your costs and your local market.
What side hustle can I start with no money?
Ten of the 25 here need nothing but time and a phone: remote freelancing, virtual assistant work, UGC, reselling on Vinted, reselling used clothes, dog walking, house and pet sitting, faceless YouTube, digital products and gig apps. Of those, house and pet sitting showed 2,904,247 weekly searches with no videos matched at all, which is the easiest place to get found if you also post about it.
Which side hustles are least saturated on TikTok?
Divide the video count by thousands of searches. The lowest ratios in our pull were voice acting, dog walking, lawn care and remote freelancing, all under 0.15 videos per thousand searches. The highest were pressure washing, home bakery and cleaning, where the advice market is crowded even though the local work is not. How the content-gap signal works.
Where do these search numbers come from?
They are TikTok's own figures from Creator Search Insights, the tool in the TikTok app and on desktop at tiktok.com/csi. Search popularity is the number of searches over the last seven days, global unless a country is selected. Neither version offers an export, so we pulled ours through TokConnect and saved the raw responses under each table.
