- #fintok had about 9.7 billion lifetime views on 182,286 videos on 30 September 2026, but TikTok's search data treats "fintok" as a tag, not a money search: people type the money words.
- "roth ira explained" was the biggest typed money search on TikTok this week (332,866 in 7 days), ahead of "Budget Chart" (287,113) and "how do high yield savings account work" (281,371).
- 15 of the 20 Roth IRA searches TikTok returned had no videos, including "whats a roth ira" (286,571 searches): explainer videos, not stock picks, fill that gap.
- "950 credit score" had 165,450 searches although the CFPB says most scores run from 300 to 850, a ready-made myth-busting video.
- Paid finance posts must be disclosed in the video (FTC), paid securities promotions must state the payment (SEC), and UK influencers can commit a crime by promoting unapproved financial products (FCA).

What is FinTok?
FinTok is the nickname for money content on TikTok and the people who watch it. The formats repeat: budget-with-me videos, cash stuffing, "what is a Roth IRA" explainers, credit score stories, debt payoff diaries and no-spend challenges. Most creators are unlicensed, which is why the rules section below matters.
The tag keeps growing. Sprout Social counted over 124,000 posts on #FinTok in May 2025 (Sprout Social); on 30 September 2026 TikTok showed 182,286 videos. Budgeting is the bigger audience, though: #Budgeting alone has about 14.1 billion views.
| Hashtag | Lifetime views | Videos |
|---|---|---|
| #Budgeting | 14,084,847,733 | 940,608 |
| #fintok | 9,729,162,820 | 182,286 |
| #budgetingtips | 2,885,855,957 | 188,515 |
| #budgetingforbeginners | 779,000,204 | 40,394 |
| #budgetingtiktok | 777,538,047 | 45,994 |
| #budgetinghacks | 197,176,458 | 6,236 |
| #budgetingapp | 86,311,411 | 3,981 |
| #fintoks | 80,861,825 | 2,799 |
Data: TikTok hashtag search for "fintok" and "budgeting" via TokConnect, pulled 30 September 2026. Views and videos are lifetime totals for each tag. Snapshot.
The catch: "fintok" is a tag, not a search. TikTok's search data returned 20 unrelated phrases for it (the top one was "oh oh my god tick tack"), and the biggest of 15 accounts in a user search had 30,887 followers and no bio. Viewers type the money words, so put those in your hook and caption.
What FinTok is searching this week
These are the typed money searches in our pulls, ranked by searches in the last 7 days. "Change" compares the last day of the week with the first. "Videos" is how many videos TikTok matches to the search, so a low number means little competition. We moved searches that name a bank or brokerage to the brands section below.

Searches are TikTok's 7-day global figure. "New" means under 2,000 searches on the first day of the week. Snapshot.
Most top searches start with "what is", "how do" or end in "explained". FinTok viewers want a definition before an opinion. For other niches, see TikTok trends.
The money questions people bring to TikTok
The typed searches fall into five themes, each a series you can build.
- Budgeting: "Budget Chart" (287,113) more than doubled across the week, and "Budgeting" itself had 110,766 searches on 2,723 videos. People want a template.
- Cash stuffing and sinking funds: "what is cash stuffing" (253,223), "cash stuff with me" (182,908), "cash stuffing sinking funds" (148,425) and "cash stuffing asmr" (132,386).
- Saving: "how do high yield savings account work" (281,371), "EmergencyFunds" (259,177) and "what is high yield savings account" (193,219). Even the typo "high yoeld savings account" had 128,338.
- Credit and debt: "Credit score" (236,681), "fico credit score" (234,929), "sued for credit card debt" (203,398) and "Credit card debt" (179,817), which grew about fivefold over the week.
- Investing basics: almost all Roth IRA. "investing for beginners" returned only TikTok's own topic labels; "roth ira" returned 20 typed searches, 15 with no videos.
Side hustles pull big numbers too ("Good side hustles" 299,129); our side hustle ideas guide covers them. "No buy challenge" returned no typed money phrases this week; the live version is "no spend month challenge" (159,015, up 178%).
People also search their own credit score number.
Look at "950 credit score": 165,450 searches for a number above the usual scale. The CFPB says most credit scores range from 300 to 850 (CFPB). That is a myth-busting video waiting to be made.
What money questions are people searching on TikTok this week, and which ones have the fewest videos?
Money searches with almost no videos
A search with real demand and few matched videos is where a new video is most likely to be found (see our content gap guide). Every idea below explains a concept rather than telling anyone what to buy.
| Search | 7-day searches | Videos | Video that would fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| whats a roth ira | 286,571 | 0 | What the account is and how it differs from a regular savings account, with the IRS page on screen |
| maxed out roth ira | 234,676 | 0 | What "maxing out" means: the yearly contribution limit, shown from the IRS page, not a brag |
| best roth ira to use | 168,050 | 0 | What to compare (fees, minimums, choices) without naming a winner |
| roth ira for a 50 year old | 87,326 | 0 | Questions to ask a registered adviser when starting later |
| Credit cards debt | 49,614 | 0 | How card interest adds up on one example balance, worked on screen |
| how to save emergency fund | 19,698 | 0 | A first-month emergency fund plan on a real paycheck |
| Budget Chart | 287,113 | 136 | Fill in a blank budget chart live, category by category |
| roth ira vs high yield savings account | 131,634 | 160 | Side-by-side of what each account is for, not which to pick |
Data: TikTok Creator Search Insights, 30 September 2026. Snapshot.
Of 275 distinct topics TikTok returned, 191 were labels it writes itself, like "simple budgeting and expense management". 189 sat between about 1.8 and 4.8 million, all climbing from 10,002 or less on the first day on the same curve. Read them as the size of a theme, not keywords to copy.
People search brand names next to account types. Roth IRA searches named Vanguard (271,781), Charles Schwab (232,883), Fidelity (216,464), Robinhood (184,755), Acorns (140,085) and Chase (90,172); one savings search named Capital One (180,745). We list these as search data, not as a comparison or a recommendation. Check your own brand the same way, then read TikTok's Branded Content Policy before paying a creator: it bans branded content for "get-rich-quick" schemes, payday loans and too-good-to-be-true offers, and restricts financial services in some markets.
How many people search for [your fintech brand] on TikTok, and what do the top videos about it say?
What the top budgeting and credit videos do
TikTok returned 11 videos for "cash stuffing" on 30 September. They run long: nine are over a minute, and the middle length is 158 seconds. The biggest, from December 2022, has 5,399,977 plays, and a September 2026 budget video already has 1,490,638.
Saves show what people plan to reuse. A 184-second video on using cash stuffing to control spending earned 6,633 saves on 239,650 plays, about 2.8%; the most-played video earned 42,441, about 0.8%. Teaching beats showing off.
Videos from TikTok video search, relevance sort, 30 September 2026, for "cash stuffing" and "credit score". Plays and saves as TikTok showed them that day. Snapshot.
The "credit score" results are a warning. At least six of the 11 captions sell credit repair with before-and-after claims, such as a jump from 487 to 734 or a 170-point increase in four days. The FTC says credit repair companies can't legally remove accurate, current negative information from your report, and anything they can do you can do yourself for little or no cost (FTC). We did not embed any of them. The credit video with the best save rate was a 210-second reply to a viewer's question: 14,097 saves on 158,710 plays, about 9%.
Finfluencer risks and disclosure rules
A 2025 FINRA Foundation study found 35% of investors under 30 rely on social media for financial information, against 13% of those 65 and older (FINRA, December 2025). Regulators have rules for anyone posting about money.
- US, any paid post (FTC): if a brand pays you, gifts you something or you have a financial tie, disclose it in the video itself, not only in the bio (FTC Disclosures 101).
- US, securities and crypto (SEC): Section 17(b) of the Securities Act bars promoting a security for pay without disclosing the payment and its amount. Kim Kardashian paid $1.26 million to settle charges over an undisclosed $250,000 crypto token post (SEC, October 2022).
- US, for viewers (SEC): Investor.gov warns that finfluencers may be paid to promote an investment and tells investors never to decide based only on social media (Investor.gov, investor alert).
- UK (FCA): influencers who promote a regulated financial product without approval from an FCA-authorised firm may be committing a criminal offence (FCA FG24/1, March 2024).
- On TikTok: branded content must use the commercial content disclosure toggle when you post (Branded Content Policy).
Red flags for viewers: guaranteed or fast returns, "DM me" to start, pay-first fixes, pressure to act today, and no word on who is paying. For creators, see our guides on brand deals and influencer marketing.
FinTok content ideas that match the searches
- Answer "what is" in the first line. "A Roth IRA is a retirement account. Here's how it works."
- Put the exact search on screen. "Budget Chart: fill it in with me" beats "my money glow-up".
- Use a real, small example. One paycheck, one card balance, one envelope. Show the math, not a screenshot of gains.
- Bust one myth per video. "Can you have a 950 credit score?" has 165,450 searches and a short, sourced answer.
- Reply to comments. The best-saved credit video was a reply. Viewers' questions are your next topics.
- Say who you are. "Education only, I'm not your adviser" in the caption, plus the paid-partnership label on any sponsored post.

How we got these numbers
On 30 September 2026 we ran 14 money searches through TikTok's Creator Search Insights data, 20 topics each (280 topics, 275 distinct), plus two hashtag, two video and one user search: 19 calls. We dropped 191 TikTok-generated labels, the 20 unrelated "fintok" phrases and a few off-topic ones. The main table shows the top 21 typed money searches without brand names.
"Searches" is TikTok's 7-day search popularity, global, the same number Creator Search Insights shows in the TikTok app and at tiktok.com/csi. It is not monthly and not US-only; our search volume guide explains it. Hashtag views and videos are lifetime totals. We embedded only budgeting explainers that promise no returns.
Frequently asked questions
What is FinTok?
FinTok is TikTok's personal finance community: budgeting, cash stuffing, saving, credit, debt payoff and investing-basics videos. The #fintok hashtag had about 9.7 billion lifetime views across 182,286 videos on 30 September 2026, and #Budgeting had about 14.1 billion. Most FinTok creators are not licensed advisers.
Is FinTok financial advice reliable?
Treat it as a starting point, not advice. The SEC's Investor.gov warns that finfluencers may not know your situation and may be paid to promote an investment, and tells investors never to decide based only on social media. Check any claim against an official source such as the CFPB, FTC or your regulator, and check an adviser's registration before acting.
What are people searching on FinTok right now?
In the 7 days to 30 September 2026 the biggest typed money searches were "roth ira explained" (332,866), "Good side hustles" (299,129), "Budget Chart" (287,113), "whats a roth ira" (286,571) and "how do high yield savings account work" (281,371). Most start with "what is" or "how do": people want definitions.
What is cash stuffing on TikTok?
Cash stuffing is a budgeting method where you split your paycheck into labelled cash envelopes, one per spending category or savings goal (sinking fund). "what is cash stuffing" had 253,223 TikTok searches in the 7 days to 30 September 2026, and cash stuffing videos run long: the middle length in our sample was 158 seconds.
Do finance influencers have to disclose paid promotions?
Yes. In the US the FTC says any payment, free product or financial tie must be disclosed in the post itself, and Section 17(b) of the Securities Act requires anyone paid to promote a security to disclose the payment and its amount. In the UK the FCA says influencers promoting regulated products without approval from an authorised firm may commit a criminal offence. On TikTok, switch on the commercial content disclosure toggle for branded posts.
What hashtags should finance creators use on TikTok?
#Budgeting (about 14.1 billion views), #fintok (9.7 billion) and #budgetingtips (2.9 billion) are the biggest. They are crowded, so use two or three and put the exact search, such as "what is a roth ira" or "Budget Chart", in your hook, on-screen text and caption. See best TikTok hashtags.
