There are seven places a TikTok trend shows itself, and they do not show it at the same time. Search demand moves first, because people look for a thing before anyone makes videos about it. Hashtag pages and the For You feed move last, because by then the videos exist and you are watching a trend that already happened.

So the short answer to how to find trends on TikTok is: start where people are searching, not where they are scrolling. Here are all seven places in order, with real numbers from 19 September 2026, and a fifteen-minute weekly routine that uses the first three.

1 to 3: the search signals, where trends start

The Trending tab in Creator Search Insights

This is TikTok's own list of topics whose searches are climbing, and it is the closest thing to a primary source that exists. It lives in the Trending tab of Creator Search Insights, in the app or at tiktok.com/csi. Every topic carries a search count for the last seven days and the daily series behind it, so you can see the shape of the rise rather than a label.

Eight topics from the list on 19 September 2026, with the first and last day of TikTok's own 7-day series:

Data: TikTok Creator Search Insights via TokConnect, pulled 19 September 2026. Open the snapshot, or the full weekly list on the trends page.

Zero videos on all eight. Millions of searches and nothing matched to answer them, which is the whole point of looking here first.

Read the daily series, not just the headline. Seven of those eight had their highest day on day seven, so they were still climbing when we pulled them. hyrox disqualified peaked a day earlier, at 8.93 million, and had already fallen to 6.81 million. Same size of number, opposite instruction: one is worth filming tomorrow, the other is worth filming tonight or not at all.

The content gap list

Content gaps are the same idea with the supply side made explicit: topics people search where TikTok has matched almost no videos. Three from this week's list, each with zero videos:

  • best trading app, 305,891 searches in seven days
  • pokemon unpacking, 299,470 searches
  • best habit tracker app, 263,720 searches

A gap is a trend nobody has noticed yet. If you can film one of these today, you are the result TikTok shows for it tomorrow.

TikTok autocomplete

Autocomplete is free, live and specific in a way topic clusters are not. Type a seed into TikTok search and the suggestions are phrases real people are typing. Pulled on 19 September, "side hustle" gave back side hustles to earn money 2026 and side hustle with ai; "budget" gave budget phones for 2026; "date night" gave date night outfits 2026. Year stamps in suggestions are a good tell: they mark the version of a topic people want now.

4 to 6: the format signals, once the videos exist

Creative Center Trends

TikTok's Creative Center is the ad side of the house, and its Trends section ranks hashtags, songs, creators and videos by country and industry, with a popularity line for each. It is free, though a login unlocks the full rankings. What it does not show is search volume: everything there is measured in posts and views, so it tells you what is being made and watched, not what is being looked for.

Trending sounds

A sound catching on is the fastest format signal on the platform, because using one is a decision a creator makes in seconds. Search sounds by keyword and the useful column is the video count: on 19 September, HONOUR (Slowed) carried 342,199 videos and Destroy it All / YUJI! (Slowed) 198,551, both edit-style tracks. Pull the same sound again a week later and the delta tells you whether it is still climbing.

Hashtag pages and For You

Last, and still worth ten minutes a week, because this is where you see the execution: the hook, the cut, the caption. Just do not read hashtag view counts as a trend signal. They are lifetime totals. #SkinCare shows 979.8 billion views across 60 million videos, a number that has been accumulating for years and would look almost the same next month. For the weekly picture, search demand beats hashtag counts every time.

7: third-party trend trackers

Every "tiktok trend tracker" in the search results is reading the same public surfaces you can read yourself, then packaging them. Three worth knowing, checked on 19 September 2026:

  • TickerTrends tracks TikTok hashtags, topics and creator growth and maps them to publicly traded companies, so it is built for investors rather than creators. Paid.
  • TrendTok is an iOS app that surfaces and forecasts trends, sounds and hashtags filtered by niche or location. Free to download, with a subscription for the useful parts.
  • Later's TikTok trends post is editorial, not a tool: a rolling roundup of current trends with notes on how to use them, updated every couple of weeks.

Use them as a second opinion. A tracker's list is filtered through someone else's judgment about what counts, and by the time a trend is written up in a blog post it is at stage six.

The fifteen-minute weekly routine

Same slot every week, because the comparison with last week is the actual product.

  1. Five minutes on rising searches. Open the trends page or the Trending tab and write down every topic in your category whose last day is its highest day. Those are still climbing.
  2. Three minutes on content gaps. Scan the gap list for anything in your niche with zero videos. Star one.
  3. Three minutes on autocomplete. Type your three seed words into TikTok search and copy any suggestion you did not see last week.
  4. Two minutes on format. Check Creative Center or a sound search for how this kind of video is being made this week.
  5. Two minutes to decide. Pick one topic, write the on-screen text line using the topic's exact wording, and put it in the calendar. One decision beats a list of forty.

The step people skip is writing it down. A trend you noticed and did not record is the same as a trend you missed, and the week-on-week diff is what turns this from browsing into research. For turning the topics you keep into scripts, the video ideas guide takes it from there.

Or hand the routine to an agent

All of these except the For You feed are data, which means an agent with access to TikTok's search can run steps one to four while you make coffee.

Try this prompt in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor with TokConnect connected

Every Monday, do my TikTok trend check for a home fitness account. 1) Pull trending topics for Sports and list the ones whose 7-day series is highest on the last day, with their search counts and video counts. 2) List content-gap topics in fitness or health with under 50 videos. 3) Pull TikTok autocomplete for "home workout", "dumbbell" and "mobility" and flag any phrase that is new since last week. 4) Give me the three best candidates, each with the exact wording to say on screen, and tell me which one to film first and why.

Run it weekly and you have a trend log with dates on it, which is the one thing no trend roundup can give you: your own history of what was rising before it was obvious.

Frequently asked questions

How to discover trends on TikTok?

Work from earliest signal to latest. Start with rising search topics and content gaps in Creator Search Insights, then TikTok autocomplete for the exact phrases people type, then the Creative Center and trending sounds for the format. Hashtag pages and the For You feed come last, because by then the videos already exist.

What is the latest trending TikTok trend?

It changes weekly, so we publish it rather than describe it. Our trends page lists the topics TikTok itself reports as trending in search, with the 7-day search count for each, refreshed every week from a snapshot you can open.

What is a TikTok trend tracker?

A tool that watches TikTok's public surfaces (hashtags, sounds, creators, topics) and ranks what is rising. TickerTrends and TrendTok are two; editorial roundups like Later's serve the same purpose more slowly. All of them read data you can read yourself, and none of the popular trackers shows TikTok's own search volume.
