TikTok Shop is the store built into the TikTok app. You see a product in a video, a live stream or the Shop tab, tap it, and pay without leaving TikTok. TikTok takes the payment, the seller ships the item, and you have 30 days from delivery to send it back. That is what TikTok Shop is, in one paragraph.

It runs in 24 countries as of August 2026, the United States and the United Kingdom among them. This page covers how buying works, what protects you when an order goes wrong, the scams to recognise, how creators and sellers make money from it, and how big it has grown. Every rule below is checked against TikTok's own policy pages and at least one source from 2025 or 2026.

What TikTok Shop is, and the four places you meet it

TikTok Shop is a marketplace, like Amazon or eBay, except that it lives inside a video app. Sellers list products through TikTok Shop Seller Center. Creators attach those products to their videos and live streams. Shoppers buy through TikTok's own checkout, so the seller never sees your card number. TikTok describes it at shop.tiktok.com.

You meet it in four places in the app.

Sources: TikTok Shop and Shopify's What Is TikTok Shop (updated May 2026). Shopify cites a 2025 GlobalData survey in which 76% of people who had bought on TikTok Shop had bought from a live stream in the past year.

The live stream part matters more than it does on other platforms. Sellers run hours-long streams with countdown deals, and the pinned product changes every few minutes. If you only know TikTok as a scrolling feed, that is the part that will surprise you.

What people ask about TikTok Shop

Type "tiktok shop" or "is tiktok shop" into TikTok's own search bar and it finishes the sentence for you. We pulled ten suggestions for each on 22 September 2026 and grouped the 20 by what the searcher wanted. More than half, 11 of 20, were about whether TikTok Shop exists where they live or whether it is legit. Only three were about how to buy.

Horizontal bar chart of 20 TikTok autocomplete suggestions for tiktok shop and is tiktok shop: 7 ask whether it is available in their country or on their device, 5 are the bare phrase or ask what it is, 4 ask whether it is legit, safe or worth it, 3 ask how to buy or turn it on, and 1 names a specific product

The rest of this page answers those questions in that order: where it exists, how it works, whether it is safe.

Which countries have TikTok Shop

TikTok Shop was in 24 countries on 13 August 2026, according to DPL's market list. Europe grew fastest this year: Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and Poland opened on 15 June 2026 and Portugal on 22 June, per Novadata. Sources disagree on the total because they count at different dates. Momentum Works counted 16 markets for 2025, before the European launches, and DPL notes that TikTok's regional help pages can lag and show fewer.

RegionCountries with TikTok Shop (August 2026)
AmericasUnited States, Mexico, Brazil
EuropeUnited Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary
AsiaIndonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan

Source: DPL, TikTok Shop Available Countries 2026, updated 13 August 2026. TikTok's own list is spread across regional Seller Center pages at seller.tiktok.com.

Canada and Nigeria, both of which appear in the search suggestions above, are not on the list. If the Shop tab is missing from your app, the usual reason is that your account's region has no TikTok Shop. A VPN does not fix it, because checkout needs a delivery address and payment method in a supported country.

How does TikTok Shop work when you buy something

Checkout is TikTok's, not the seller's. In the US you can pay with Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover, PayPal, Apple Pay on iPhone, Google Pay on Android, or split the cost with Klarna or Affirm, according to TikTok's payment methods page. Your card details stay with TikTok's payment provider. A seller who asks you to pay some other way is breaking the rules, and you lose every protection below the moment you do.

After you order, the timelines look like this.

To return something, open your profile, go to Your Orders, tap the order and choose Return or Refund. Pick a reason and add photos. When the seller is at fault (wrong item, damaged, fake), TikTok's policy says the seller pays return shipping and you get a prepaid label. When you simply changed your mind, you may pay the postage.

Some things cannot be returned: food, supplements, live plants, trading cards, pre-owned items and sealed hygiene products. Even then you can still get a refund if the item is damaged or not what was described.

To report a bad seller rather than just return an item, open the product page or the shop's page, tap the three dots, tap Report and pick the reason: counterfeit, prohibited product, misleading listing or seller conduct. Add your order number and what actually arrived. That route is described in an August 2026 guide. If the seller rejects a refund, escalate from the order page within 10 days and TikTok decides. The seller then has 48 hours to send evidence, and TikTok's policy says missing that deadline "may lead to an automatic refund at the seller's expense".

Is TikTok Shop safe?

Buying inside the app is about as safe as buying from a third-party seller on Amazon or eBay. Your payment goes through TikTok, refunds are TikTok's decision and not the seller's, and sellers must pass an ID or business registration check before they can list. TikTok's Shop Safety Report for the first half of 2025 says it rejected more than 70 million product listings, declined 1.4 million seller applications and removed over 700,000 sellers in six months, as reported by Social Media Today.

Those numbers also tell you the size of the problem. Two risks stand out.

Counterfeits get through. Which? bought 34 branded cosmetics from marketplace sellers in July 2025 and judged 23 likely fake; of the 6 bought on TikTok Shop, 5 were, according to Which?. If a branded product costs a third of the shop price, treat it as fake until it arrives and proves otherwise, and use the 90-day claim if it does not.

Fake TikTok Shops exist outside the app. In August 2025, CTM360 documented a campaign it called FraudOnTok: more than 15,000 lookalike domains that copied TikTok Shop's checkout, asked for payment in cryptocurrency, or sold trojanised "TikTok Shop" apps, per The Hacker News. A year later, Malwarebytes was still warning about cloned shops reached from ads and messages. Its advice is the whole rule: only use TikTok Shop from inside the TikTok app, never from a link.

The "TikTok Shop marketing centre" message is a scam

An account calling itself the TikTok Shop marketing centre, an affiliate agency or an official partner sends you a DM. It offers a job, commissions or free products. Then it asks for a registration fee, a wallet to "top up", or your login. A June 2025 r/Scams thread, "Is Tiktok shop marketing center scam or legit?", describes exactly this, and an April 2025 r/TikTok thread, "How to legit report a tiktok shop for fraud?", shows how hard people find it to get such accounts removed. TikTok Shop never charges a fee to join as a creator or a buyer, and it never DMs you to recruit you. Block, report the account, and if you already paid, contact your bank the same day.

Two more habits keep you out of trouble. Read the seller's rating and the reviews with photos, not the video that sold you the product. And never move a conversation or a payment to WhatsApp, Telegram or a bank transfer, however good the "private price" sounds.

How creators earn from TikTok Shop

Creators earn commission as TikTok Shop affiliates. You add a seller's product to your showcase, attach it to a video or live stream, and get a percentage of each sale that comes from your link, typically 5% to 20% set by the seller. In the US you need to be 18 and have at least 1,000 followers, and creators under 5,000 followers start in a 30-day trial. Payouts, free samples and the reasons people get rejected are all in our TikTok affiliate requirements guide.

How sellers join TikTok Shop

Anyone 18 or older living in a TikTok Shop country can open a shop for free in Seller Center after an ID check; there is no follower requirement and no monthly fee. TikTok instead takes a referral fee on each sale, 6% on most products in the US and 9% in the UK, and requires every order to reach a carrier within two business days. The documents, fees, shipping rule and a first-week checklist are in how to sell on TikTok Shop.

How big TikTok Shop is

TikTok does not publish sales figures for TikTok Shop. The numbers below are estimates from research firms, and the two firms measure different things, so they do not match.

Sources: Momentum Works; ClickAnalytic citing eMarketer; Shopify citing eMarketer. Gross merchandise value counts everything ordered before returns and cancellations; eMarketer's retail ecommerce sales excludes some categories. All are estimates, not TikTok figures.

Prices have risen as it has grown. Modern Retail reported in December 2025, using data from Charm, that the average footwear price on TikTok Shop went from $14.06 to $28.64 in a year. Early on TikTok subsidised discounts and charged sellers only 2%; those subsidies ended as fees rose, US tariffs on Chinese goods climbed in 2025, and bigger brands moved in.

"TikTok made me buy it": what shoppers search for

TikTok is also where people go to look for products before they buy. The hashtag #TikTokMadeMeBuyIt had more than 30 million videos by February 2026, according to YouGov. The searches behind it are visible in Creator Search Insights, TikTok's tool in the app and at tiktok.com/csi that shows how many times a topic was searched in the last 7 days and how many videos exist for it. On 21 September 2026 we ran 14 shopping searches through it. Eight of the topics that came back:

Data: TikTok Creator Search Insights via TokConnect, pulled 21 September 2026. Searches are TikTok's 7-day global "Search popularity" figure; videos is the count TikTok lists for the topic, and 0 marks a content gap. Snapshot. The live version of this table is at /trends/products/.

Two things in that table are useful. About 4.6 million searches a week for "TikTok Shop product buying help" tells you how many people are confused by the thing this page explains. And a topic with 4.5 million searches and zero videos is an open door for a creator or a seller. Our product research guide shows how to work through a whole category this way.

Frequently asked questions

What is TikTok Shop?

TikTok Shop is the shopping marketplace built into the TikTok app. Sellers list products, creators attach them to videos and live streams, and shoppers buy through TikTok's own checkout without leaving the app. You find it through product tags on videos, pinned products on live streams, the Shop tab in the main navigation, and the shopping-bag icon on seller and creator profiles.

Is TikTok Shop safe to buy from?

Inside the app, yes, with the same care you would take on Amazon or eBay. TikTok holds the payment, decides refunds, and lets you claim for 90 days if an item is damaged, fake or not as described. Sellers pass an ID check, and TikTok says it rejected over 70 million listings in the first half of 2025. The risks are counterfeit branded goods at prices that look too good, and scams that happen outside the app: cloned TikTok Shop websites, and DMs from a fake "TikTok Shop marketing centre" asking for a fee. Never pay anywhere except the in-app checkout.

How does TikTok Shop work for sellers?

Anyone 18 or older in a TikTok Shop country can register free in Seller Center after an ID or business check. There is no listing or monthly fee; TikTok takes a referral fee on each sale, 6% on most US products and 9% in the UK. Sellers must hand every order to a carrier within two business days, handle returns under TikTok's 30-day policy, and can offer creators a commission to promote their products. Our how to sell on TikTok Shop guide has the documents, fees and first steps.

Which countries have TikTok Shop?

Twenty-four as of August 2026: the United States, Mexico and Brazil; the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Greece and Hungary; and Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Japan. Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland and Portugal opened in June 2026. Canada, Australia, India and Nigeria do not have it. Counts vary by source because markets open through the year; Momentum Works counted 16 for 2025.

How do I get a refund on TikTok Shop?

Open your profile, go to Your Orders, tap the order and choose Return or Refund. Pick a reason and add photos if the item is wrong or damaged. You have 30 calendar days from delivery. The seller has 4 business days to respond (2 for a refund-only request under $100); no response counts as approval. If the seller rejects it, escalate from the order page within 10 days and TikTok decides. For a damaged, faulty or misdescribed item you can still claim up to 90 days after delivery. Refunds usually land 3 to 5 business days after the seller receives the return.

Why is TikTok Shop so cheap?

Three reasons, two of which are fading. TikTok subsidised discounts and charged sellers only 2% when it launched, to win shoppers from Amazon; those subsidies ended as fees rose to 6%. Many sellers ship straight from factories in China with no wholesaler or distributor in between. And live-stream flash deals and coupons are built into the app. Prices are climbing: Modern Retail reported in December 2025 that the average footwear price on TikTok Shop doubled in a year, driven by US tariffs and bigger brands joining. A branded product at a third of the shop price is more likely fake than cheap.
