To become a TikTok affiliate in the US you need to be 18 or older, live in the US, have at least 1,000 followers, pass an ID check and have an account with no TikTok Shop strikes. That is the whole entry list on TikTok Shop's own Creator Eligibility Policy, updated 31 July 2026. Once in, you tag sellers' products in videos, photo posts and LIVEs and earn a commission the seller sets on each sale.

The 5,000-follower figure you may have read is the exit from a 30-day pilot, not the door. Below: the rules TikTok publishes, where guides disagree, what creators report earning, and one thing the guides skip: which products people search for on TikTok that almost nobody has filmed.

TikTok Shop US Academy pages, checked 22 September 2026. TikTok's UK eligibility policy also sets 1,000 followers.

The follower rule has moved, which is why guides disagree. The US bar was 5,000 until TikTok tested 1,000 in 2024, and some creators reported it going back up that year. As of September 2026 every TikTok page we checked says 1,000 to join and 5,000 to graduate. For the UK and Southeast Asia, Later (July 2026) still says 5,000; TikTok's UK policy and AutoDS (August 2026) say 1,000.

TikTok does not say whether a business account can join. Most 2026 guides say business accounts are excluded; one says the opposite. Creators report the TikTok Shop for Creator menu vanishing on a business account and returning on a personal one. Selling your own products needs a seller account instead; see the selling on TikTok Shop guide.

Countries where TikTok Shop affiliate exists

DPL's August 2026 count lists 24 markets: the US, Mexico, Brazil, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, the UK, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Greece and Hungary. Canada, India and the UAE are not on it. TikTok publishes no single list of affiliate countries, so look for the Join button in your app.

How to become a TikTok affiliate from the app

TikTok's own instructions are one line: TikTok Studio, Monetization, TikTok Shop for Creator, Join now. In full:

  1. Open your profile, tap the menu in the top right and open TikTok Studio. Tap Monetization.
  2. Tap TikTok Shop for Creator, then Join now. Seller Center is the wrong door; it is for selling your own stock.
  3. Confirm you are 18 and verify your identity with a government ID. TikTok gives you 10 tries.
  4. Accept the creator and e-commerce terms, then add your payout account and tax details (a W-9 in the US).
  5. Wait one to three days, per Creators Agency and other 2026 guides. Then open the Product Marketplace and add products to your showcase.

With 1,000 to 4,999 followers you land in the pilot. TikTok's May 2026 pilot page allows 3 shoppable videos a day and 3 shoppable LIVEs a week, from shops rated 95% or higher only, and no campaigns. You graduate after 30 days with 5,000 followers, a Creator Health Rating of 176 or more and one task done: 6 shoppable videos of 8 seconds or longer, 1 LIVE of 5 minutes, or 10 orders. TikTok's June 2025 feature guide says 5 shoppable videos a week, not 3 a day, so TikTok's own pages disagree; go by the newer one. Regular videos are never limited.

How TikTok affiliate commissions work

The seller picks the rate, and TikTok lets them set anything from 1% to 80% of the sale (TikTok's open collaboration page). TikTok's Affiliate Marketing Policy (2 September 2026) names three plan types.

PlanHow it worksTypical rate (reported)
Open plan (open collaboration)The product sits in the Product Marketplace. Any eligible affiliate can add it to their showcase10% to 15%
Targeted plan (target collaboration)The seller invites you and can offer a private rate. A targeted rate always beats the open rate on the same product18% to 25%, up to 50% for proven sellers
Shop plan (shop collaboration)One rate for everything the shop sellsVaries

Plan definitions from TikTok's Affiliate Marketing Policy. Typical rates from Hamster Garage (updated 17 July 2026), which also puts the US average at 13.02%; Later (July 2026) reports 13.07%. TikTok publishes no average.

What that pays: a $30 product at 13% is $3.90 a sale. Hamster Garage (June 2026) reports most videos earn $10 to $200 in commission and the top 0.5% of US affiliates drive 38% of affiliate sales; citing Momentum Works, it counts 1,785 US creators past $1 million in sales in 2025, up from 529. Creator threads match that shape: an April 2026 r/TikTokshop thread, "TikTok affiliate is the best and worst business model ever", and a March 2025 one, "How much money have you made as an affiliate", run from a few dollars a month to five figures, with most replies near the bottom.

Free samples and how to request them

TikTok's sample guide (updated 1 September 2026) limits free samples to creators with a TikTok Shop sale in the last 120 days; new affiliates get "limited access". To request one: Product Marketplace, filter Free Sample, open the product, tap Get Sample, enter size and shipping. The seller can approve, reject or ignore you; after a rejection you wait 30 days.

Once it arrives you have 14 days to post a shoppable video that stays public for at least 3 days, or run a 10-minute LIVE with the product linked. Active requests are capped at 5 while your monthly sales are under $5,000, 20 up to $150,000 and 50 above that. Miss deadlines repeatedly and TikTok cuts your sample access or removes you. Refundable samples are the alternative for new accounts: you buy the product, and the seller refunds you if your posts hit the sales goal within 120 days.

How and when you get paid

Commission is (revenue minus refunds) times the rate, per TikTok's commission page (14 September 2026). It usually lands 15 days after delivery, or 31 days or more if the seller settles slowly or a return or dispute is open. A full refund makes the commission zero. You withdraw from Creator Center to a US bank account or PayPal; TikTok's Withdraw Rules set a $2 minimum, with a $0.05 bank fee or a 0.9% PayPal fee.

Orders marked "ineligible" are the most common complaint (see the May 2026 r/Affiliatemarketing thread "Tiktok affiliate purchase marked as ineligible"). Causes TikTok and 2026 guides list: a refund or return; the seller quietly stopped paying commission on the product; a targeted plan expired while the product stayed in your showcase; or you removed the product or deleted the video, which drops your locked rate. Check the plan's end date before you film.

Why people get rejected or removed

Rejections at the door come from the eligibility list: under 18, wrong country, under 1,000 followers, a failed ID check, or a link to an account whose permissions were revoked. Bought followers fail too; TikTok checks the account, not the number.

Removal after joining is about behaviour. TikTok's Creator Enforcement Policy (31 July 2026) removes e-commerce permissions for the same violation 6 times in 90 days, and can limit shoppable posting, suspend commissions or freeze payments for misleading claims, fake engagement, reused videos and medical claims. TikTok's H1 2025 safety report counts more than 2 million creators stripped of e-commerce features in six months. Low sales bite more quietly: no sale in 120 days closes free samples, and a Promotion Performance Score under 3.5 locks whole product categories. You get one appeal per violation, within 30 days.

The "TikTok affiliate agency" DM is a scam

If an account calling itself a TikTok Shop marketing center, affiliate agency or official partner messages you with a job, a training fee or a wallet to "top up" before commissions unlock, block it. The real program is free to join from the app and never asks for a deposit. A June 2025 r/Scams thread, "Is Tiktok shop marketing center scam or legit?", describes the pattern, and CTM360's FraudOnTok research (August 2025) traced the cloned TikTok Shop sites and trojan app behind it. Real sellers reach you through Collab Invites inside Creator Center.

Guides say pick "trending" products, which means crowded ones. TikTok's own search data offers a better list. Creator Search Insights, in the app and at tiktok.com/csi, shows how often a topic was searched in the last 7 days and how many videos TikTok lists for it. On 21 September 2026 we pulled 70 product topics from 14 shopping searches; 24 had millions of searches and zero videos. Eight of them:

Data: TikTok Creator Search Insights via TokConnect, pulled 21 September 2026. Searches are TikTok's 7-day global "search popularity" figure; videos listed is TikTok's count for the topic, and 0 is the signal behind its content gap badge. Snapshot. The weekly list is at TikTok trending products.

A zero means no video is filed under that exact topic, not that nobody mentions the product, so a video titled with those words has little to beat in search. Match each topic to a Marketplace product: a repair gadget, a Japanese kitchen tool, an oven liner, a shapewear dupe.

What the videos that already sell look like

Data: TikTok search results via TokConnect, pulled 22 September 2026, top results by relevance. A shop cue is a caption that says link in bio, DM to order, shop, sale or order. Snapshot. Creator handles are not stored.

Two things stand out. Every ranking kitchen video is a short demo of one product doing one thing, and all nine passed a million plays. For these two searches photo posts trail far behind: the best slideshow, a 9-slide car decor post, reached 502,543 plays, and the median kitchen photo post had 463. Slideshows win elsewhere, and the slideshow guide shows where; for product demos, film the product. Watch saves over likes, since a save is someone planning to buy: the top kitchen video collected 223,694 saves on 24 million plays.

Frequently asked questions

How many followers do you need to be a TikTok affiliate?

1,000 in the US, per TikTok Shop's Creator Eligibility Policy (updated 31 July 2026). Under 5,000 followers you are placed in a 30-day pilot with limits on shoppable posts, and you leave it at 5,000 followers plus 30 days. Some guides still say 5,000 for the UK and Southeast Asia; TikTok's UK policy page says 1,000.

How do I become a TikTok affiliate on my phone?

Open your profile, tap the menu, open TikTok Studio, go to the Monetization tab, tap TikTok Shop for Creator and then Join now. You confirm your age, verify your identity with a government ID, accept the terms and add payout and tax details. Guides report approval in one to three days. Do not sign up in Seller Center; that is for people selling their own products.

How much do TikTok affiliates make?

It depends on what you sell and how many people watch. The seller sets the rate; 2026 guides report a US average near 13%, so a $30 product pays about $3.90 a sale. Hamster Garage (June 2026) reports most videos earn $10 to $200 in commission and that the top 0.5% of creators drive 38% of affiliate sales. TikTok publishes no earnings figures.

Do you need a business account to be a TikTok affiliate?

No. TikTok's eligibility policy does not mention account type, and guides disagree: several say business accounts are excluded and you need a personal or creator account, one says the opposite. Creators report the TikTok Shop for Creator menu disappearing on business accounts and returning after switching to personal. If the menu is missing, check your account type first.

How do TikTok affiliates get free samples?

In the Product Marketplace, filter for Free Sample, open a product and tap Get Sample, then fill in your size and shipping details. The seller approves or ignores the request. TikTok's sample guide (updated 1 September 2026) limits free samples to creators with a sale in the last 120 days, caps active requests at 5 while your monthly sales are under $5,000, and gives you 14 days after delivery to post a shoppable video or a 10-minute LIVE.

Why was I removed from the TikTok affiliate program?

TikTok's Creator Enforcement Policy (31 July 2026) removes e-commerce permissions for the same violation six times in 90 days, and can suspend commissions or freeze payments for misleading claims, fake engagement, reused content and medical claims. Missing sample deadlines repeatedly, or being linked to an account whose permissions were revoked, also gets people removed. You get one appeal, within 30 days.
