Key takeaways
  • Claude can't look at TikTok on its own. TikTok's robots.txt blocks ClaudeBot, Claude-User and Claude-SearchBot, and Claude's upload page lists video as unsupported.
  • Alone, Claude can search the web with citations and work with text, CSVs and images you upload. None of that gives it TikTok search counts, views or comments.
  • A custom connector (a remote MCP server) gives Claude TikTok tools. Anthropic offers custom connectors on every plan; Free is limited to one.
  • In our dog treat workflow, 49 of 50 topics were TikTok's own labels; the one typed search, "Dog Treats Recipe", had 156,646 searches and was falling.
  • The top 15 recipe videos had 13.1 million plays, and 15 of 92 comments on the top two said the dog wouldn't eat it. That objection belongs in the brief.

Claude can't look at TikTok on its own. TikTok's robots.txt blocks all three of Anthropic's bots, Claude's upload page lists video as unsupported, and Claude has no access to TikTok search counts, view counts or comments. What it can do alone is search the web for articles, with citations, and work with text, spreadsheets and images you give it.

Connect it to TikTok data and that changes. Anthropic's custom connectors let Claude call a remote MCP server (MCP is the open standard for plugging tools into an AI), and they work on every Claude plan, with Free limited to one. For Claude TikTok research, that means live numbers: when we ran a five-step brand workflow for dog treats on 30 September 2026, the typed search "Dog Treats Recipe" had 156,646 searches, the top 15 recipe videos had 13.1 million plays, and 15 of 92 comments we read said "my dog won't eat it". This page is for brands and agencies. We make TokConnect, the connector used in the workflow. Checked 30 September 2026 against Anthropic's help pages.

Can Claude look at TikTok on its own?

No. Here is what each setup can do for common TikTok research jobs. "Claude alone" means a normal chat with web search on. "Claude with a TikTok connector" means Claude plus a remote MCP server that exposes TikTok research tools.

Two columns. Claude alone: web search with citations finds articles about TikTok, not TikTok data; it reads text, PDF, CSV and images you upload, up to 20 files; video uploads are not supported; TikTok's robots.txt disallows all three Claude bots; so it has no TikTok search counts, live views or comments. Claude with the TokConnect connector, five steps run on 30 September 2026: niche demand, 3 seeds returned 50 topics, 49 of them TikTok labels; rising or falling, Dog Treats Recipe had 156,646 searches and its weekly average fell 37 percent; top videos, 15 videos with 13.1 million plays, the top one 3.97 million; comments, 92 read and 15 say my dog won't eat it; brief, written from steps 1 to 4.

Web search finds articles, not TikTok

You switch web search on from the + button in a chat. Anthropic's web search page says every answer includes citations, so you can check each source. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner has to enable it for the workspace first, and on free accounts searches and page fetches count toward your usage limit.

What web search finds is articles about TikTok: trend round-ups, marketing blogs, news. Those are useful for context and usually days or weeks behind. Nothing in them tells you how many people searched "dog treats recipe" this week.

Uploads work for text, not video

Claude's upload page (updated 23 July 2026) accepts PDFs, Word files, CSVs, spreadsheets and images, up to 20 files of 500MB each in a chat, and marks video as not supported. So the reliable way to give Claude a TikTok is as text: a transcript, a comment export, or analytics you downloaded. Our comment export guide covers the comments part.

TikTok blocks Claude's bots

Anthropic runs three bots: ClaudeBot for training, Claude-User for fetching a page when you ask, and Claude-SearchBot for search. Its crawler page says they honour robots.txt, and that blocking Claude-User stops Claude fetching a site for a user. TikTok's robots.txt lists all three, plus the older anthropic-ai agent, in a group of 25 bots told to stay off the whole site. Paste a TikTok link and Claude has no sanctioned way to open it. ChatGPT is in the same spot; see can ChatGPT watch TikTok videos.

How do connectors let Claude use TikTok data?

A connector gives Claude tools. Anthropic's connectors page (20 August 2026) says connectors let Claude access your apps and services, retrieve your data and take actions, and that they work across Claude, Claude Desktop, Claude Code and the API. Claude only gets what your account in that service can see.

For a service that isn't in Anthropic's directory, you add a custom connector. Anthropic's custom connectors article (updated 11 August 2026) describes these as connections to remote MCP servers, available on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. Free users are limited to one custom connector. You add it under Customize → Connectors, then switch it on per chat with + → Connectors. On Team and Enterprise an owner adds it for the organization first.

In Claude Code, it is one command: claude mcp add --transport http <name> <url>, per Anthropic's Claude Code MCP docs. Our setup pages walk through both: TokConnect in Claude Desktop and claude.ai and TokConnect in Claude Code.

Which TikTok connector do you need?

Search results for "Claude TikTok" mix four kinds of connector that answer different questions. Pick by the job.

Each vendor's own page, read 30 September 2026. Facts with links.

The first three look at accounts you own. A research connector looks at the rest of TikTok: what buyers search, which videos win and what commenters ask. TokConnect doesn't post, doesn't read your private analytics or ad account, and doesn't estimate TikTok Shop sales. If you need those, use one of the others alongside it. The TikTok MCP guide explains how these servers work.

A Claude TikTok research workflow for a brand, in five steps

Say you run TikTok for a dog treat brand, or an agency pitching one. Here is the research you'd run in Claude with TokConnect connected. For each step we show what you'd ask and the data TikTok returned when we made the same calls on 30 September 2026. We don't show Claude's replies, because we can't run Claude for this page. What matters is the data it would be working from.

Step 1: Size the niche's search demand

Ask Claude which searches exist around your product and how big they are. Three seeds ("dog treats", "homemade dog treats", "dog treat recipe") returned 50 unique topics. Only one was a phrase people actually type: "Dog Treats Recipe", with 156,646 searches in TikTok's 7-day figure and 1,030 videos.

The other 49 were TikTok's own topic labels. You spot them by their shape: every one climbed each day of the week, from 9,996 or less on day one to between 1.8 and 4.8 million on day seven, with names like "dog food and pet treats". They group many searches together, so treat them as themes, not keywords. Six dog-related labels had zero videos, including "dog Valentine's treats and recipes" and "dog treats and pet food ingredients". Zero videos is TikTok's content gap signal.

Data: TikTok Creator Search Insights via TokConnect, pulled 30 September 2026, global. "Searches" is TikTok's search popularity figure for the last 7 days; see our search volume guide. Labels are topics that climbed every day from under 20,000 to over 1,000,000. Snapshot and workings.

Step 2: Check whether the searches are rising

Next, ask for the 30-day history of the typed search. "Dog Treats Recipe" is not rising. Its average over the last seven days was 217,135 a day, against 345,703 in the first seven days of the window, about 37% lower. The peak was 519,983 on 1 September. Steady, falling demand like this suits evergreen recipe videos, not a rush to catch a trend.

Line chart of TikTok search popularity by day for Dog Treats Recipe from 31 August to 30 September 2026. It starts at 459,985, peaks at 519,983 on 1 September, swings between 139,995 and about 460,000 through mid-September, and ends at 156,645 on 30 September.

TikTok's search suggestions add the phrases people start typing, without counts: "dog treats for teeth", "dog treats for puppies", "dog treats for shih tzu" and "dog treats small business". Those are angles a brand can own. We also asked for related searches for "Dog Treats Recipe"; TikTok returned none.

Step 3: Find the top videos

Then ask for the most-played videos on the typed search. A video search for "dog treats recipe" returned 15 videos with 13.1 million plays between them.

Data: TikTok video search via TokConnect, pulled 30 September 2026, sorted by plays. Saves per 100 plays is saves divided by plays. Snapshot with all 15 videos.

Three patterns stand out. Three of the top six sell themselves as "2 ingredient" recipes. Only two of the six were posted in 2026, and the second-biggest is from May 2021, so recipe videos keep getting found for years. And the one sponsored post among the 15, a discount-code partnership with no recipe, ranked last with 69,268 plays. One video proves nothing, but it fits: people searching for a recipe came for the recipe.

Step 4: Read the comments

Now ask Claude to read the comments on the top two videos and sort them by theme. We pulled 46 comments from each, 92 in all, and coded them by hand, one theme per comment.

ThemeComments

Public comments via TokConnect on the two videos above, pulled 30 September 2026, commenter names removed. Every comment with its theme.

Leave out the reactions and the biggest theme is picky dogs: 15 comments, 12 of them on the cucumber video, where the most-liked one (6,941 likes) points out that not all dogs will eat healthy food. Swap questions come next: can I use regular flour, what replaces coconut water, how long do these keep. Five asked about safety, such as whether ice is fine for dogs. For a treat brand, "my dog won't eat it" is the objection to answer on camera.

Step 5: Turn it into a brief

Last, ask Claude to write the creative brief from steps 1 to 4, and to cite the numbers it used. The job here is Claude's strength: turning a pile of numbers into a page a creator can film from. What it has to work with, from our pulls:

  • The phrase to say and show: "dog treats recipe", the one typed search, at 156,646 a week and slowly falling.
  • The format that wins: a short, 2-ingredient recipe; three of the top six videos use that promise.
  • The objection: picky dogs, the top non-reaction theme in 92 comments.
  • Open angles: zero-video labels such as dog Valentine's treats, and suggestions like "dog treats for teeth".
  • Hashtags: #dogtreats has about 3.9 billion lifetime views over 690,975 videos; #dogtreatsrecipe is smaller at 5,954 videos.

More pet niche searches are in TikTok keywords for pets.

Do this in TokConnect

You don't need Claude for any of this. The same research runs in TokConnect's own chat with no setup: ask in plain words and it calls the same tools. Ask: "What do people search on TikTok about dog treats, which videos get watched, and what do commenters say?"

When we made those calls on 30 September 2026, they returned one typed search, "Dog Treats Recipe", at 156,646 searches a week and falling, 49 TikTok topic labels with six content gaps, 15 top recipe videos with 13.1 million plays, and one clear objection in the comments: picky dogs.

What to do next: swap in your own product, check whether its typed searches are rising over 30 days, and brief one video on the top search and one on the top objection. If your team already works in Claude, connect the same account and ask there. A typical question uses 1 to 4 credits, and the Free plan includes 50; plans start at $49 a month for 500.

Ask TokConnect

Is TikTok search demand for dog treat recipes rising or falling over the last 30 days?

How we got these numbers

All pulls were made on 30 September 2026 through TokConnect: four Creator Search Insights topic searches (the three dog treat seeds plus "dog chews", which returned only labels and isn't used above), search suggestions, a 30-day search history, related searches and related topics for "Dog Treats Recipe" (the related topics were unrelated, so we left them out), a request for TikTok's content guidance (none generated yet), a video search, a hashtag search and two comment pulls of 46 comments each. Figures are global.

We counted a topic as a TikTok label if it passed 5 million searches or climbed every day from under 20,000 to over a million. Comment themes were coded by hand. Facts about Claude come from Anthropic's help and docs pages, read the same day. We did not run Claude for this page, so no Claude output is shown; what it writes from these numbers will vary.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude access TikTok?

Not by itself. TikTok's robots.txt disallows ClaudeBot, Claude-User and Claude-SearchBot, and Anthropic says its bots honour robots.txt. Claude reaches TikTok data only through a connector, a remote MCP server that gives it TikTok tools.

Can Claude watch TikTok videos?

No. Anthropic's upload page lists documents and images and marks video as not supported, and Claude can't open TikTok links. Give it the transcript, the caption or the comments as text instead.

Is there a TikTok connector for Claude?

Yes, several services offer one. Some report on your own ads or account (Windsor.ai, Data Bloo), some post videos (Blotato), and research connectors such as TokConnect show TikTok search demand, public videos and comments. You add them in Claude as custom connectors.

Can I use Claude for TikTok marketing?

Yes, for the thinking and writing: briefs, scripts, captions, reports and comment summaries. Give it real TikTok numbers through a connector or a file first, or it will work from web articles and its own training.

Do custom connectors work on the free Claude plan?

Yes. Anthropic's custom connectors article lists Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, with Free users limited to one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise an owner adds the connector for the organization first.

Can Claude post to TikTok?

Not on its own. A posting service's MCP server, such as Blotato's, can publish to a TikTok account you link there. Research connectors like TokConnect don't post or schedule.
