Dog hashtags for TikTok: real view counts and pet searches

The biggest dog hashtags on TikTok are #dog (about 1.12 trillion lifetime views across 86,792,749 videos), #dogsoftiktok (614.8 billion views), #dogs (346.1 billion) and #puppy (258.1 billion). They're huge and crowded. The smaller #dogtricks gets 19,248 views per video on average, more than any other dog tag we checked, and cats beat dogs on views per video in every matching pair.

Hashtags only tell you size. To learn what pet owners want, we also ran 12 pet searches through TikTok's own search data on 30 September 2026. The biggest typed pet search was "DogTrainer" (471,264 searches in 7 days), then "french bulldog core" (320,539) and "french bulldog crying" (301,930). Two of the top 10, "Pitbull French bulldog" and "cody french bulldog", had no videos at all.

The biggest dog hashtags on TikTok, by views

Hashtag numbers are lifetime totals, so they show how big a tag is, not what's hot this week. The last column is the useful one: lifetime views divided by videos. A high number means a video on that tag tends to get seen.

Three things stand out. #dog has more than 86 million videos, so one more post there is a drop in the ocean. #dogtricks is a fraction of the size but earns about 50% more views per video than #dog, which fits what people search: training searches sit near the top of the list further down. And people misspell the big tag often enough that #dogsofttiktok, with a double t, has 6,899,173 videos of its own.

Cat hashtags and pet hashtags

Cats get more attention per video than dogs on TikTok. #cat has more lifetime views than #dog (about 1.21 trillion) on fewer videos (77,828,579), and #catsoftiktok beats #dogsoftiktok on both views and videos.

#pet tops the chart at 21,331 views per video. The big cat tags average 13,257 to 15,484; the big dog tags 10,460 to 12,886. #petshop (7,718) and #doggy (6,254) come last, so don't count on a shop tag to carry a product video.

A simple mix works for most pet videos: one big tag (#dogsoftiktok or #catsoftiktok), one breed tag (#frenchie, #goldenretriever) and one tag for what happens in the video (#dogtricks, #dogharness). What pet owners search on TikTok this week

These are the top 20 typed pet searches from our pulls, ranked by searches in the last 7 days. "Change" compares the last day of the week with the first. "Videos" is how many videos TikTok matches to that exact search, so a low number means little competition.

Two breeds carry this list. French bulldogs returned 10 typed searches, from "french bulldog core" to "french bulldog harness". Golden retrievers returned 11, most of them about quirks you can film at home: the tongue, the "woo" noise, retrieving, shedding and names. Training is the one broad theme that came back as typed searches, led by "DogTrainer" (up 127% across the week) and "Dog Training Tips".

The typical typed pet search in our set had 190,737 searches a week. 17 of the 32 rose across the week and 15 fell. Two climbed from almost nothing: "my french bulldog" went from 1,300 on day one to 94,528, and "golden retriever friend" from 4,199 to 91,590.

Autocomplete shows the other side of pet TikTok. When we typed "dog", TikTok suggested "dog funny video", "dog meme", "dog barking", "dog sound to attract dog" and "dog filter". For "cat" it offered "cat video", "Cat Funny Videos", "cat sound" and "Cat sounds to attract cats" (suggestions snapshot). Many people who type "dog tiktok" or "cat tiktok" just want to watch and laugh, so a funny, sound-on clip is still the widest door in.

Why "dog food" and "dog grooming" return no real searches

TikTok returned 240 topics for our 12 searches. Only 32 were phrases people typed. The other 204 were topic labels TikTok writes itself to group many searches, like "foods dogs should not eat" or "dog grooming cuts and styles". They all read between 1,855,785 and 4,802,697, and every one started the week at a few thousand or less before jumping to millions. Read them as the size of a theme, not as keywords to copy.

The split is stark. Three breed searches ("golden retriever", "french bulldog", "orange cat") gave 24 typed searches out of 60 topics. The nine broad searches gave 8 out of 180, and "dog food", "dog grooming", "cat food", "cat behavior" and "dog toys" gave none. If you research pet keywords, start from a breed, then add the product or problem.

The labels still carry signals, especially the ones with no videos matched. 48 of the 204 had none, including every one of the 20 labels for "dog grooming":

Pet searches with few or no videos

A typed search with real demand and few matched videos is the easiest place for a new video to show up. TikTok calls a search with none a content gap. These are the best openings in our pulls:

We left two out. "cody french bulldog" (246,476, no videos) is a search for one dog by name, so only that dog's owner can answer it. "golden retriever passed" (93,828, 164 videos) is about losing a pet, not a keyword to chase. Names are the steadiest win on the list: "golden retriever names" rose 86% in the week and has a clear answer anyone with a golden can film.

What the top "french bulldog harness" videos do

We searched "french bulldog harness", a product search with 168,615 searches and 505 videos, and TikTok returned 10 videos. The first is a 20-second clip with 2,869,817 plays about switching from a collar to a no-pull harness, tagged #tiktokshopcreatorpicks. Fourth place goes to a video with 1,495 plays that names the dog's weight and harness size. It ranks above clips with 314,788 and 195,057 plays, so in search, matching the words beats raw views.

Across all 10: every caption says "harness" and "frenchie" or "french bulldog", and six use #dogharness. Four tag a harness brand's account and three use a TikTok Shop tag. Three are about fit and size, including a 54-second reply to a viewer's comment: "Medium way better". Lengths run from 8 to 68 seconds, with a middle value of about 20. Two were posted before 2025 and still rank, so a good product video keeps working.

For a pet brand, the lesson is plain. Show the product on the dog, say the breed and the size, and answer the fit question before people ask it. If your comments fill up with "what size?", reply with a video.

How to caption and tag a pet video so people find it

TikTok says it uses details like captions, sounds and hashtags to understand what a video is about (TikTok Help Center). For pets, that means naming the breed and the moment in words, not just showing a cute dog.

1. Lead with the breed. "French bulldog" and "golden retriever" returned typed searches; "dog food" and "dog grooming" didn't. "Golden retriever shedding" beats "my dog".
2. Say it, show it, write it. Say the phrase in the first seconds, put it in on-screen text, and write it in the caption.
3. Use three hashtags. One big (#dogsoftiktok), one breed (#goldenretriever), one for the action (#dogtricks, #dogharness).
4. Film the quirks. Tongue, "woo", retrieving and talking all have hundreds of thousands of searches and fewer than 900 videos each.
5. Groomers: name the cut. Every "dog grooming" label had no videos. A before-and-after that names the cut and breed in the caption answers something almost nobody has filmed.

How we got these numbers

On 30 September 2026 we ran 12 pet searches through TikTok's Creator Search Insights data and took the top 20 topics for each: 240 topics, 239 unique. We split them into 32 typed searches (all under 1 million) and 204 TikTok topic labels (1,855,785 and up), and dropped three typed results that weren't about pets. We added six hashtag searches, autocomplete for "dog" and "cat", and one video search. You can open every pull from the snapshot links under each table.
