A TikTok hashtag generator should hand you real hashtags with real numbers, not a random pile of tags nobody has checked. The tool on this page does that. Pick your niche and it returns the five biggest hashtags TikTok lists for it, each with its lifetime view count and how many videos carry it, plus two smaller tags that are easier to reach the top of.

The tags are not invented. They come from one pull of TikTok's own hashtag search across 40 niches, saved on 19 September 2026. So this doubles as a hashtag finder: type "skincare" or "booktok" and you see what TikTok actually returns, sorted by size, with counts you would otherwise read one tag at a time.

One honest warning before you copy anything. Hashtags are a small part of getting found on TikTok, and the words you say and type matter more. We get to that below. But if you want the best hashtags for TikTok that a generator can give you, start with tags that fit the video and are small enough to climb.

Horizontal bar chart of the ten biggest TikTok hashtags by lifetime views, led by #Comedy at about 3.0 trillion and #Anime at 2.98 trillion, down to #dog at 1.11 trillion.

The generator reads a saved snapshot of TikTok's hashtag search across 40 niches, pulled 19 September 2026. Open the snapshot. The counts are refreshed weekly on the trending hashtags page.

Type a niche or pick one from the list, then choose Get hashtags. You get the five biggest tags for that niche with their lifetime views and video counts, a copy button that puts all five on one line, and two lower-competition tags: the ones with the fewest videos that still have real views. TikTok counts only the first five hashtags on a post, so five is all you copy.

How to use the five hashtags

You have five slots. Here is a simple way to spend them.

  • One broad tag that names the category: #SkinCare, #gym, #BookTok. This is the shelf your video sits on.
  • Two niche tags that name what you do inside it: #SkincareTips, #gymworkout, #booktokrecommendations. This is where people who care are watching.
  • Two specific tags for the exact thing on screen: the product, the exercise, the book, the place. Swap these for every video.

The generator gives you the five biggest tags so you can see the ground, then two lower-competition tags to use as your specific slots. Relevance beats size every time, because TikTok uses your tags to pick the first small group it shows the video to. A precise tag reaches people who want it, and watch time from them is what pushes the video further. The full breakdown, tag by tag, is in the best TikTok hashtags by niche.

Why the counts are lifetime totals

Every number in the tool and the table is a lifetime total for the tag, counted since the tag first existed, with no date window. A huge number mostly tells you the tag is old, not that it is busy this week. That is why the biggest tags are the worst bet: #Comedy has three trillion views spread over 928 million videos, so a new post lands at the bottom of a queue nobody scrolls.

Read the ratio instead. A tag with 800 million views on 27,000 videos gives a new post far better odds than one with a trillion views on 100 million videos. The two lower-competition tags the generator returns are picked on exactly this idea: among the tags that still have real views, they have the fewest videos, so your video does not disappear the second you post it. View counts also cannot tell you what people are searching for right now. That is a separate number, and it lives in hashtags versus keywords.

Why the words in your caption matter more

Here is the part a hashtag generator cannot do for you, and it counts for more than the tags. TikTok search matches the words in your caption, your on-screen text and what you say out loud, not your hashtags. A hashtag is a category label. A keyword is the phrase a person typed into the search bar.

So the order that works is: find the phrase people search for in your niche, say it in the first three seconds, put it in your on-screen text, and write your caption as a sentence that contains it. Then add your five hashtags. A video that ranks for a search keeps pulling in viewers for months, long after the hashtag has done its small job. The full checklist is in the TikTok SEO guide, and caption ideas shows how to write the sentence.

How to find tags for a niche that is not listed

Forty niches will not cover everyone. If yours is missing, do this by hand in a minute. Open TikTok, type your topic into the search bar, and tap the Hashtags tab. TikTok shows you tags with their view counts, the same data the generator uses. Pick one broad tag, two that name your sub-topic, and two small ones that describe the exact video.

Then check each shortlisted tag before you post: search it inside TikTok and look at the top videos on it. If they do not look like yours, the tag is pointing at the wrong crowd, so drop it. An agent connected to TikTok's data can do the whole search for you and rank the results, which is the prompt below.

Skip the hashtag wall

The old trick of stacking #fyp #viral #foryou #foryoupage #fypシ and twenty more does nothing now. TikTok counts only your first five tags, so the rest are ignored, and there is no published evidence that #fyp puts a video on the For You feed. A wall of generic tags also tells TikTok nothing about what your video is, which is the one job a hashtag has.

Paste this into your agent

Find the hashtags TikTok returns for [my niche] with lifetime views and video counts, and pick five: one broad tag, two that name the sub-niche, and two smaller ones with the fewest videos. Then suggest one search keyword for my caption and show me the top videos on each tag so I can check they fit.

Frequently asked questions

What hashtags should I use on TikTok?

Use three to five that describe what is actually in the video, not the biggest tags you can find. A good set is one broad tag for the category, two that name your sub-niche, and two specific to the video, such as the product, exercise or book. The generator above shows the real tags for 40 niches with their view and video counts so you can pick.

How many hashtags can you use on TikTok?

Since August 2025 TikTok counts only the first five hashtags on a post, so five is the working limit even if the caption field lets you type more. TikTok published no explanation for the cap, and its Creator Academy asks for fewer still, two or three relevant tags. A few accounts reported seven during the rollout, so check your own caption field.

Do hashtags still work on TikTok?

Yes, but they do a smaller job than most people think. A hashtag tells TikTok which category the video belongs to and helps it pick the first small audience to test the video on. What ranks you in search is the words in your caption, on-screen text and audio, not the tags. Use both: a fitting hashtag for the shelf, a search phrase for the crowd.

Does #fyp do anything?

There is no published evidence that adding #fyp, #foryou or #fypシ puts a video on the For You feed, and TikTok has not said it does. Because TikTok counts only your first five tags, a generic one like #fyp also wastes a slot that could describe your video. Spend the slot on a tag that says what the video is instead.

How do I find trending hashtags?

The view counts on a hashtag are lifetime totals, so they cannot tell you what is trending this week. For that, use TikTok's search popularity figures, which count searches over the last seven days, and our trending hashtags page, which refreshes weekly. You can also open TikTok, search your topic and read the Hashtags tab to see the current tags and counts.

Is a hashtag generator worth using?

It is worth using when it gives you real tags with real numbers, so you can see how big each one is and pick the smaller ones you can rank on. It is not worth much when it invents tags or hides the counts, because size and relevance are the whole decision. The tool on this page shows the lifetime views and video count for every tag it returns.
