This is a TikTok caption generator that runs in your browser: type what your video is about, pick what you want the caption to do, and it writes six options you can edit. It builds every option the way captions that rank in TikTok search are built, so the topic phrase comes first and each option ends with exactly five hashtags. Nothing is sent anywhere, and there is no AI guessing behind it. The rules come from 108 captions we measured on videos ranking for ten everyday searches.

Use it as a first draft, not a finished caption. The generator gives you a shape that matches what search can read; you put it in your own voice before you post. Below the tool, we explain why the search words go first, the three parts every good caption has, and why five hashtags chosen like keywords beat a wall of tags.

TikTok caption generator

Type what your video is about, then generate.

The tool works with an empty box (it prompts you to type something first), and it never stores or sends what you enter. If a topic has more than five useful words, it keeps the five that carry the most meaning, because TikTok has capped posts at five hashtags since August 2025.

Why a good caption starts with the search words

TikTok reads three things to decide what a video is about: the caption, the words on screen, and the words spoken in the audio. It matches a search against all three. That is why the first line of the caption is the most valuable text you write. If someone types "home workout no equipment" and your caption opens with those words, the video has something to match. If your caption opens with "the glow up is real," it does not.

The captions that already rank prove the point. In the set of 108 we measured, 76% contained every word of the search phrase somewhere, and the median caption put the topic in its first line before anything else. Short beats long here: the median ranking caption was 145 characters, and about two in three were under 200. The 4,000-character limit is room, not a target. Our guide to TikTok SEO has the full checklist, and how TikTok search works explains the matching layer the caption feeds.

Bar chart: among 108 captions ranking in TikTok search, 22% were under 100 characters, 54% used exactly five hashtags, 76% contained every word of the query somewhere, and 11% used the exact query phrase in order.

Notice the gap between the last two bars. Only 11% of ranking captions used the exact query as a phrase, but 76% used every word of it. TikTok matches words and their variants, not exact strings, so you do not have to force an awkward phrase in word for word. Cover the words, in a sentence that reads naturally, and let a hashtag repeat them. That is exactly what the generator does.

The three parts of a caption that ranks

Every option the tool writes has the same three parts, in this order.

The hook line. This is the first line, and it holds the search phrase. It is what shows in the For You feed before the "more" tap, so it has to name the topic and give a reason to watch. "Day 1 of home workout no equipment" does both in a few words.

The point. One line that says what is actually in the video: the number of steps, who it is for, what makes it different. This is the optional detail field in the tool. Numbers do real work here. In the measured set, captions that carried a number had double the median saves of captions without one, because a number tells the viewer exactly what they are getting.

The call to action. One short line that matches your goal. Pick "get saves" and the tool adds a save prompt ("save this for when you need it"), because a save means the viewer plans to come back. Pick "get comments" and it adds a question, though keep in mind comment prompts are rare on captions that rank: only four of the 108 asked for a comment, so treat that as a feed device and still lead with the search phrase. Pick "drive a link" and it points to your bio. Pick "plain reach" and it adds nothing, letting the phrase and hashtags do the work.

Five hashtags, chosen like keywords

Five is both the cap and the norm. In the ranking set, 58 of 108 captions used exactly five, and the walls of ten or more tags were nearly all posted before the cap arrived. So the question is not how many, it is which five. The generator picks them like keywords: one tag that joins your whole phrase, then the individual words in it, so every tag is doing matching work rather than decoration.

That is why you will not see #fyp, #viral or #foryou in the output. Those describe nothing and take a slot a real word could use. If you want the full argument with tag views next to search volume, hashtags vs keywords lays it out in numbers.

The generated caption is a starting point

The tool gives you a shape, not a voice. It knows the topic phrase goes first, the length that ranks, and the five hashtags that match. It does not know your joke, your audience, or the one detail that makes your video worth watching. So read the six options, pick the one closest to what you filmed, and rewrite it in your own words. Keep the search phrase in the first line, keep it under 200 characters if you can, and keep the five hashtags. Change everything else.

Watch out for AI captions that ignore what people search

A general AI writing tool will happily produce a clever caption that contains none of the words anyone types into TikTok. It reads well and ranks for nothing. A caption is a search field first and a piece of writing second. Whatever you use to draft it, check that the first line still carries the phrase a real person would search, or the caption is only talking to the people who already found you.

If you want caption ideas beyond these six, our TikTok caption ideas page has 50 formulas in six families, each measured against the same ranking data and built from a real search phrase. This tool automates the most common of those families; that page shows the rest.

Write captions from live search data

This tool works from what we measured. To write captions from the phrases people are searching for your exact topic right now, hand the job to an agent that can read TikTok's search data. It pulls the autocomplete for your topic and the captions already ranking, then writes to match.

Paste this into your agent

Give me the phrases people search for around [topic] and write three captions that open with them. Pull TikTok search suggestions for [topic], then search the top two for the captions that rank, and keep each caption under 200 characters with exactly five hashtags that repeat words from the phrases.

Frequently asked questions

What should I write in a TikTok caption?

Open with the phrase someone would type to find the video, then add one line saying what is in it (a number of steps, who it is for, or a save prompt), then three to five hashtags that repeat the topic words. In the 108 captions we measured on videos ranking in TikTok search, the topic phrase came first and the median caption was 145 characters. Leave out anything that contradicts what the video says out loud.

How long should a TikTok caption be?

Under 200 characters covers most of what ranks. The median caption across 108 videos ranking in TikTok search was 145 characters, and about two in three were under 200. The limit is 4,000 characters, which recipe and gardening creators use for ingredient lists, but those long captions were the exception and still held the topic phrase in the first line. Put the search phrase in the first 100 characters, roughly what shows before the "more" tap.

Do captions help TikTok SEO?

Yes. TikTok names captions, along with sounds and hashtags, among the information it uses to decide what a video is about, and since April 2026 it lets you see and manage the search keywords it attaches to each video. The caption is one of three text surfaces search can read, with on-screen text and speech being the other two. The TikTok SEO guide has the full checklist.

Can AI write my TikTok caption?

It can draft one, but be careful. A general AI writing tool often produces a clever caption that contains none of the words people actually search, so it reads well and ranks for nothing. A caption is a search field first and a piece of writing second. This page's generator is not AI at all; it applies measured rules so the first line always carries the search phrase. Whatever you draft with, check that first line before you post.

How many hashtags should be in a TikTok caption?

Three to five, and five is the hard cap since August 2025. In our pull, 58 of 108 ranking captions used exactly five, 22 used one to four, and the walls of ten or more were nearly all posted before the cap. Choose them like keywords: one broad tag, two or three that repeat the words in your topic, none for luck. The generator on this page does exactly that. Hashtags vs keywords puts the numbers side by side.

Is a TikTok caption generator worth using?

As a first draft, yes, if it builds captions the way ranking captions are built rather than inventing clever lines. This one puts your topic phrase first, keeps the caption short, and caps hashtags at five, which is the pattern we measured across 108 ranking captions. It saves you the structure so you can spend your time on the voice. Rewrite the output before you post; the shape is the tool's job and the voice is yours.
