- #travel is the biggest travel hashtag on TikTok (769.9 billion lifetime views on 93,755,689 videos), but smaller tags earn more views per video: #travellertok 28,419, #travelhack 25,268 and #foodtravel 24,687, against 8,212 for #travel.
- "cheap flight tickets" was the top typed travel search in the week to 30 September 2026 (388,805 searches in 7 days), and cheap flights gave six typed searches in all.
- Broad words return TikTok's own topic labels: "travel", "things to do in", "travel hacks", "packing tips" and "hotel" gave 3 typed searches out of 100 topics, while "things to do in nyc" alone gave 11.
- Place searches with demand and no videos are open: "fidi things to do nyc" (282,415), "flushing nyc things to do" (256,076) and "day trips from naples italy" (161,616) had none.
- The top videos for "things to do in nyc on a budget" all put a price or "free" in the caption; only one used the word "budget".
The biggest travel hashtags on TikTok are #travel (769.9 billion lifetime views on 93,755,689 videos), #traveltiktok, #tiktoktravel and #traveltok. The tags that earn the most views per video are smaller: #travellertok, #travelhack and #foodtravel. In search, the top typed travel keyword this week was "cheap flight tickets", with 388,805 searches in 7 days.
This page is for hotels, tour operators, tourism boards and travel creators who want the exact tags and words to put in a video. On 30 September 2026 we ran 15 travel searches through TikTok's own search data, from broad words like "travel" and "hotel" to specific ones like "things to do in nyc", and pulled the travel hashtags, autocomplete and top videos to go with them.
The biggest lesson: broad travel words return almost nothing but TikTok's own topic labels. "Hotel", "travel hacks", "packing tips" and "things to do in" gave zero typed searches between them. "Things to do in nyc" gave 11. Type a place, not a category.
Travel hashtags on TikTok: views, videos and views per video
Hashtag numbers are lifetime totals, so they show how big a tag is, not how it is doing this week. The column to watch is the last one: lifetime views divided by videos. A tag with fewer videos and more views per video gives a new post a better chance of being seen.

Data: TikTok hashtag search for "travel" and "traveltok" via TokConnect, pulled 30 September 2026. Views and videos are lifetime totals. Snapshot with all 37 tags.
Three things stand out. Hack tags pull two to three times the views per video of #travel, which fits the search data below: people search for tips and cheap flights, not for "travel". #tiktoktravel has the most videos after #travel but the lowest views per video in the table. And destination tags like #traveltokorea and #traveltokyo beat every broad tag, #traveltok included, on views per video.
A practical mix: one broad tag (#traveltok), one format tag (#travelhack or #foodtravel) and one place tag (#tokyo, #nyc, your town). Three tags and a keyword in the caption do more than ten broad ones. Our guides on the best TikTok hashtags and hashtags vs keywords go deeper.

Travel keywords people search on TikTok this week
These are the top 20 typed travel searches from our pulls, ranked by searches in the last 7 days. "Change" compares the last day of the week with the first. "Videos" is how many videos TikTok matches to that exact search, so a low number means little competition.

Data: TikTok Creator Search Insights via TokConnect, pulled 30 September 2026 for 15 searches, 20 topics each: "travel", "things to do in", "travel hacks", "packing tips", "carry on bag", "cheap flights", "hotel", "all inclusive resort", "road trip", "solo travel", "japan travel", "europe trip", "fall vacation", "things to do in nyc" and "italy trip". Searches are TikTok's 7-day global figure. "New" means under 1,000 searches on the first day. Snapshot with all 32 typed searches.
The demand sorts into four jobs. Cheap flights: six typed searches, led by "cheap flight tickets" and "cheap flights from nyc", plus "cheap flight to japan" (81,759) and "same day flights for cheap" (51,174). Packing: "Pack Carry On Bag" and "tsa carry on bag", which was new this week. Trip planning: "1 month europe trip", "europe trip with kids" (96,351) and "how to plan a trip to italy" (54,183). Things to do in a city: eleven NYC searches, because we seeded New York to test the pattern.
The typical typed travel search in our set had 163,183 searches a week. Daily readings for a single search jump around, so trust a search that stays high all week over one that spikes on the last day. For the weekly list of travel topics TikTok itself marks as trending, see our TikTok travel trends table; this page sticks to keywords and hashtags.

Why "travel" alone returns TikTok's labels
TikTok returned 293 unique topics for our 15 searches. Only 32 were phrases people typed. 247 were topic labels TikTok writes itself to group many searches, like "travel packing tips and checklists" or "all inclusive resort destinations". All but two read between about 1.9 million and 4.8 million, and most climbed from under 10,000 on the first day to millions by the last. Two read above 5 million, which is TikTok's generated-label range. Read labels as the size of a theme, not as keywords to copy.
The split is stark. Five broad seeds ("travel", "things to do in", "travel hacks", "packing tips", "hotel") gave 3 typed searches out of 100 topics. One place seed, "things to do in nyc", gave 11 out of 20. If you research travel keywords, start from a city, a route or a price.
We also left 14 results out: three TikTok Featured Content entries, two moving-house packing searches, two fashion bag searches, two broken "Hotel" fragments, two phrases whose daily readings repeated in a way no real search does, one label-style phrase, one garbled duplicate, and "ppg road trip", which most likely means powered paragliding.
The labels still carry signals, especially the ones with no videos matched:
- "Japan travel and living costs": 4.6 million, no videos
- "Europe trip packing and backpacks": 4.6 million, no videos
- "Italy boat rides and experiences": 4.5 million, no videos
- "adults only all inclusive resorts": 4.2 million, no videos
- "all inclusive resort pricing": 4.1 million, no videos
- "Hawaii travel tips and hacks": 3.9 million, no videos
- "Colombia flights and cheap airfare": 2.7 million, no videos
Of the 247 labels, 65 had no videos matched. Costs and prices come up again and again. Our content gap guide explains how to read these.
Destination searches: what people type after "things to do in"
When we typed "things to do in", TikTok's autocomplete offered New York, Chicago, Dallas, Houston TX, Atlanta, Miami, San Francisco and Charlotte NC. After "travel" it offered "travel videos", "travel vlog", "travel usa", "travel the world", "travel tiktok trend" and "travel china" (suggestions snapshot). TikTok shows no counts for these, but each is typed often enough to be offered.
New York shows what a single city holds. Its 11 typed searches split by neighborhood ("fidi", "flushing", "manhattan"), by who you travel with ("with gf", "solo"), by budget and by season ("nyc fall things to do", 101,269). Two neighborhood searches, with 282,415 and 256,076 searches, had no videos at all. Expect the same shape for your city: area, companion, price, season.
Hotels and tour operators should note that "hotel" returned no typed searches at all, only labels such as "weird and unusual hotels" (4,143,556) and "best hotels and hotel stays". People don't search for a hotel on TikTok; they search for the trip. Put your property inside a destination video: "things to do in [your town]", "day trips from [your city]", "[area] on a budget".
Travel searches with no videos yet
A search with real demand and few matched videos is the easiest place for a new video to show up. TikTok calls this a content gap. These are the typed travel searches in our pulls with zero or very few videos:
| Travel search | 7-day searches | Videos | Video that would fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| fidi things to do nyc | 282,415 | 0 | Five stops in the Financial District on one walk, with the name on screen |
| flushing nyc things to do | 256,076 | 0 | A food and market day in Flushing, with prices |
| day trips from naples italy | 161,616 | 0 | Three day trips from Naples by train or ferry, with times and fares |
| things not to do in nyc | 44,786 | 0 | First-timer mistakes, told by a local guide or hotel concierge |
| 1 month europe trip | 278,572 | 112 | A month's route and budget on one map |
| things to do in nyc with gf | 135,586 | 132 | A date-day itinerary with what each stop cost |
| things to do in nyc on a budget | 265,367 | 332 | Five things under $10, with the price on screen for each |
| same day flights for cheap | 51,174 | 352 | How last-minute fares work, shown on a real booking screen |
| cheap flights from nyc | 235,770 | 385 | Where you can fly from NYC airports this month, cheapest first |
| how to get super cheap flights | 78,492 | 410 | Three fare tools compared on the same route |
Data: TikTok Creator Search Insights, 30 September 2026. Snapshot.
Every one of these is a place, a price or both. A tour operator in Naples, a hotel in Flushing or a flight-deal account could own one of them this week with a single well-labeled video.
Which travel searches about [your city] have lots of searches on TikTok but few videos this week?
What the top videos for "things to do in nyc on a budget" do
We searched "things to do in nyc on a budget", up 477% this week, and TikTok returned six videos. The first is an 18-second "Under $10: Affordable Fun in NYC" list with 658,464 plays. The most played, a 7-second craft-spot clip with 1,420,838 plays and the most saves (53,075), ranked fourth. Relevance beats raw views in search.
The pattern across all six: every caption names a price or says "free" ("under $10", "$3", "under €5", "free"), but only one uses the word "budget". Lengths run from 7 to 57 seconds, with a middle value of 18. Four were posted in 2025 and still rank, so a good destination list keeps working for more than a year. Each video names exact places: a carousel, a tramway, a pier.

How to use travel hashtags and keywords in a video
TikTok says it uses details like captions, sounds and hashtags to understand what a video is about (TikTok Help Center). For travel, that means naming the place and the job in words, not just showing a pretty view.
- Hook with place plus job. Say "things to do in Flushing for under $20" in the first two seconds, not "come with me".
- Put the exact search on screen. On-screen text like "day trips from Naples" matches what people type. Add the price or time for each stop.
- Write it in the caption. One plain sentence with the keyword, then three tags: one broad, one format, one place.
- Answer the money question. Prices sit behind the biggest searches and the emptiest labels. Show the fare, the ticket, the room rate.
- Hotels: sell the trip, not the room. Film what guests do nearby and name the area. Your property is the last stop in the list.
Skip rooftop, cliff-edge, railway and closed-area shots. TikTok's Community Guidelines don't allow content that shows or promotes dangerous stunts or dares that could lead to physical harm, and a trespass clip can cost a property its reputation. If a hotel or tour gives you a free or discounted stay, the FTC says to disclose it in the video itself, not only in the caption (Disclosures 101). TikTok's Branded Content Policy also asks you to turn on the commercial content setting.
How we got these numbers
On 30 September 2026 we ran 15 travel searches through TikTok's Creator Search Insights data and took the top 20 topics for each: 300 topics, 293 unique. We split them into 32 typed searches (all under 1 million), 247 TikTok topic labels (1 million and up) and 14 we left out, for the reasons above. We added two hashtag searches ("travel" and "traveltok"), autocomplete for two phrases and one video search. New York is over-represented because we used it as the test city; run the same check for yours.
"Searches" is TikTok's search popularity: searches in the last 7 days, worldwide (more in TikTok search volume). Hashtag views and videos are lifetime totals. You can see the same search numbers in Creator Search Insights, in the TikTok app or on desktop at tiktok.com/csi with a TikTok login, one search at a time and with no export (TikTok Help Center). Or ask TokConnect "what are travelers searching about Lisbon this week?" and get the searches, top videos and numbers in one answer. For the method, read TikTok keyword research.
Frequently asked questions
What are the best travel hashtags for TikTok?
#travel, #traveltiktok, #tiktoktravel and #traveltok are the biggest. On 30 September 2026 #travel had 769.9 billion lifetime views on 93,755,689 videos, so it is very crowded. Smaller tags earn more views per video: #travellertok (28,419), #travelhack (25,268) and #foodtravel (24,687). Use one broad tag, one format tag and one place tag, and put the exact search phrase in your caption.
What is TravelTok?
TravelTok is TikTok's travel community: creators sharing trips, tips, flight deals and places to go. Its tag, #traveltok, had 74.8 billion lifetime views on 5,575,838 videos on 30 September 2026, and it averages 13,417 views per video, more than #travel (8,212).
What are good travel keywords for TikTok?
Specific ones with a place, a price or a job in them. The biggest typed travel searches in the week to 30 September 2026 were "cheap flight tickets" (388,805), "road trip grwm" (284,628), "fidi things to do nyc" (282,415), "1 month europe trip" (278,572) and "things to do in nyc on a budget" (265,367). Broad words like "hotel" or "travel hacks" return only TikTok's own topic labels.
Do TikTok hashtags really work for travel videos?
They help TikTok understand a video, but they do less than the words you say, show and write. TikTok says it uses captions, sounds and hashtags to understand content. In our search for "things to do in nyc on a budget", the first-ranked video had fewer plays than three below it; what they shared was a place and a price in the caption. See hashtags vs keywords.
How can hotels and tour operators use TikTok search?
Sell the trip, not the room. "Hotel" returned no typed searches in our pulls, while "things to do in" a city, "day trips from" a city and "on a budget" searches did. Film what guests do nearby, name the area and the prices, and disclose any free or discounted stay you give a creator.
Where can I see what travelers search on TikTok?
In Creator Search Insights, inside the TikTok app or on desktop at tiktok.com/csi with a TikTok login. Type a destination such as "things to do in chicago" and it shows search popularity and a 7-day chart per topic. It has no export or history, so for many destinations at once, ask a research tool that reads the same data.
