Key takeaways
  • Most TikTok trend trackers count views and posts. Only TikTok's Creator Search Insights data counts searches, which show what people want this week.
  • TikTok's own trending lists show topic labels that pool many searches: all 20 Food and Fashion entries on 5 October 2026 had 7-day figures above 5 million. Look up the typed searches inside a theme before judging demand.
  • Free and official: Creative Center for hashtag posts and views by country, Creator Search Insights for search counts. Neither exports.
  • Exolyt (from €210 a month billed yearly) is built for tracking many hashtags and accounts over months; Exploding Topics ($39 a month plus a $59 TikTok add-on) starts from Google searches.
  • "japanese straight perm at home" had 271,081 TikTok searches in the week to 5 October 2026 and no matched videos, after daily readings no higher than 61,189 in September; its hashtag showed 51 million lifetime views.

As of 5 October 2026, the best TikTok trend tracker tools are TikTok's own Creative Center (free, hashtag posts and views) and Creator Search Insights (free, TikTok search counts), TrendTok for sounds on iPhone, Exolyt for tracking hashtags and accounts over months, and Exploding Topics for Google search growth with a TikTok add-on. Brandwatch, Brand24 and Storyclash also appear on "best tools" lists, but they track mentions of your brand and creators, not trends.

The biggest difference between them is what they count. Most trackers count views and posts, which tell you what is already big. Only TikTok's search data counts what people are typing into TikTok this week. On 5 October, "japanese straight perm at home" had 271,081 TikTok searches in seven days, after daily readings no higher than 61,189 in September, and TikTok matched no videos to it.

We make TokConnect, which puts TikTok's search data into AI agents, so weigh our view accordingly. Here is how we compared: every competitor fact comes from the vendor's own pricing, feature or help page, or its App Store listing, checked 5 October 2026. We did not sign up for paid plans, so nothing below is a hands-on test. The TikTok numbers are our own pulls from the same day.

The best TikTok trend tracker tools compared

When we asked a logged-out ChatGPT on 5 October 2026 for the best TikTok trend tracker tools in 2026, it named seven: TikTok Creative Center, TrendTok, Exolyt, Exploding Topics, Brandwatch, Brand24 and Storyclash. It cited a brandmentions.com ranking from 3 September 2026, which is a list of social listening tools. That explains the mix. Here are all seven, plus Creator Search Insights and TokConnect, on the same criteria.

What each tracker actually measures

A trend tracker is only as good as the number it counts. There are five kinds on this list, and each one answers a different question.

Views and posts: Creative Center, Exolyt, TrendTok

Creative Center ranks hashtags by posts and views in a country over the last 7, 30 or 90 days. It is free and comes from TikTok itself, which makes it the best first stop for formats and hashtags already in use. The catch is that a hashtag only ranks once lots of people have posted with it. Logged out, it showed us three rows before asking us to sign in.

Exolyt is a TikTok-only analytics suite. Its strength is history: it tracks up to 300 hashtags and 300 accounts on its Advanced plan, with at least a year of data, plus social listening. That is the right tool for an agency reporting on hashtags month after month. Its free Basic plan tracks one account and one hashtag with 7 days of history.

TrendTok is an iPhone app for sounds and hashtags, with a 4.8 rating from about 66,000 App Store ratings. It says it is not affiliated with TikTok. For sound trends it covers what search data does not, and our trending sounds guide covers the free ways to do the same.

Google searches: Exploding Topics

Exploding Topics measures Google search volume and growth, then adds a channel breakdown. Its $59-a-month TikTok add-on shows views, posts and likes for trending products in 18+ categories, according to its add-on page. It does not show TikTok searches. Our Exploding Topics for TikTok page puts its examples next to TikTok's own search curves.

Mentions: Brandwatch, Brand24 and Storyclash

These are listening and influencer tools. Brandwatch's TikTok source indexes mentions of your brand's handle once you connect your own account, per its help centre. Brand24 finds your keywords in TikTok captions and, when a video has captions, in what people say, per its help article. Storyclash finds brand mentions in video descriptions and tracks creator campaigns. All three are good at telling you what people say about you. None of them tells you what is trending in your niche before you are part of it. Our TikTok social listening guide covers that job properly.

TikTok searches: Creator Search Insights and TokConnect

Creator Search Insights is TikTok's own count of how many people searched a topic in the last 7 days, with a chart of up to 180 days. It is free, in the app and at tiktok.com/csi, but it shows one topic at a time with no export. We built TokConnect to pull the same numbers into Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, alongside the videos and creators for each topic. The search volume guide explains what the numbers mean.

Same trend, different numbers: what search-based tracking sees

To show the difference, we took two trends from TikTok's Food and Fashion trending lists on 5 October 2026, Japanese straight perms and gumbo, and found the searches people actually type about them. We pulled 30 days of TikTok search history for four of those searches, then looked up the matching hashtags, which is roughly what a views-and-posts tracker sees.

Line chart of TikTok's daily search reading for two typed searches from 5 September to 5 October 2026. japanese straight perm at home stays between 11,125 and 61,189 until 28 September, then rises to 101,729 on 30 September and 300,889 on 3 October, dips to 87,525 on 4 October and ends at 271,080. japanese perms stays between 6,626 and 99,397 until 28 September, then reaches 412,822 on 4 October and 295,187 on 5 October.
Two typed Japanese perm searches were flat in September and took off in the first days of October. Source: TikTok Creator Search Insights via TokConnect, pulled 5 October 2026 (data).

"japanese straight perm at home" is the clearest case. Its daily reading stayed between 11,125 and 61,189 from 5 to 28 September, then reached 300,889 on 3 October, and TikTok matched no videos to it. "japanese perms" did the same, peaking at 412,822 on 4 October. The #japanesestraightperm hashtag had 51,340,781 lifetime views and 7,429 videos when we checked. A hashtag tracker sees a mid-sized beauty tag; search shows the week it took off, and that nobody has made the at-home video yet.

Line chart of TikTok's daily search reading for two typed gumbo searches from 5 September to 5 October 2026. gumbo file starts at 3,155, stays under 25,000 on every day to 28 September except 53,623 on 14 September, then jumps to 167,915 on 29 September and ends at 259,470 on 5 October. okra gumbo moves between 18,938 and 497,098 all month, peaking on 20 September, and ends at 280,770.
"gumbo file" jumped at the end of September; "okra gumbo" was searched steadily all month. Source: TikTok Creator Search Insights via TokConnect, pulled 5 October 2026.

Gumbo shows the opposite problem. The #gumbo tag has 1,126,888,675 lifetime views across 96,158 videos, so gumbo always looks big on a hashtag chart. Search shows timing: "gumbo file", for the filé powder that thickens gumbo, rose from 3,155 on 5 September to 167,915 on 29 September and 259,470 on 5 October. "okra gumbo" was searched steadily all month, between 18,938 and 497,098 a day. A hashtag chart cannot tell those two apart.

Search also catches what has no videos yet. Both Japanese perm searches had zero matched videos while being searched 271,081 and 295,188 times in the week. A views-based tracker cannot rank a search that has no videos. The content gap guide explains how to use those.

What TikTok's trending lists actually show

The topics on TikTok's own trending lists are mostly not phrases people type. All 20 topics on the Food and Fashion lists we pulled on 5 October had 7-day figures above 5 million, which is the scale of topic labels TikTok writes to pool many related searches. The top Fashion entry, TikTok's topic group for Japanese straight perm, showed 45,063,956, a figure that pools many related searches. Use those lists to spot a theme, then look up the typed searches inside it before you judge demand. Trending lists.

Which TikTok trend tracker should you pick?

  • Pick Creative Center if you want free, official hashtag and video rankings by country, and you mostly need to know what formats are already working.
  • Pick Creator Search Insights if you check a handful of topics by hand and do not need history or exports.
  • Pick TrendTok if you are a creator who wants trending sounds on your phone.
  • Pick Exolyt if you are an agency that reports on dozens of hashtags and accounts over months and needs dashboards and seats.
  • Pick Exploding Topics if you sell products across channels and want Google search growth first, with TikTok views as a second check.
  • Pick Brandwatch, Brand24 or Storyclash if the job is monitoring your brand's mentions or running creator campaigns, not spotting trends.
  • Pick TokConnect if you want TikTok's own search counts for your niche, with history, inside the AI tool you already use, and want to ask follow-up questions about the videos and creators behind them.

Most teams use two: one views tool for formats and one search tool for timing. Our free TikTok trend tracker shows the fastest-rising searches every morning, and how to predict TikTok trends shows how much warning search data gave for six real topics.

Using TokConnect, pull TikTok's trending topics for [category] and search topics for [my niche]. Set aside TikTok's pooled topic labels (7-day figures of 5 million or more, or descriptive group names) and keep the phrases people type. For the five typed searches that fit my niche best, show the 7-day searches, the number of videos matched, and the 30-day search curve. Flag any whose latest daily reading is at least twice its average over the previous 30 days, and look up the matching hashtag's lifetime views so I can see whether it is new or just big.

How we got these numbers

All TikTok figures were pulled on 5 October 2026 through the TokConnect MCP server, which reads TikTok Creator Search Insights and TikTok's public search. We used trending_topics for the Food and Fashion categories (10 topics each), search_topics for "japanese straight perm", "gumbo" and "skull necklace" to find typed searches, search_popularity with a 30-day window for four typed searches, and search_hashtags for two hashtags. Search figures are global unless a country is named. "7-day searches" is the number TikTok shows as Search popularity. The daily reading is the value TikTok plots for each day on the topic's chart, and the latest reading matches the 7-day figure. Hashtag views and video counts are lifetime totals.

We separate typed searches from TikTok's topic labels. Our rule: a record is a label if its 7-day figure is 5 million or more, or 1 million or more with the week's first reading under 5% of its last, or its wording describes a group rather than a search. Every topic on the two trending lists was a label by that rule, and so were all 10 results for "skull necklace", so only typed searches carry the page's claims. Trending lists move daily, so the lists are a snapshot of one morning. Competitor facts come from vendor pages read on 5 October 2026, and Creative Center was read logged out with the US region and the 7-day window. Download the trending lists, the curves, typed searches and hashtags and the tool facts. For where else trends show up first, see how to find trends on TikTok.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free TikTok trend tracker?

TikTok's own tools are the best free options. Creative Center ranks hashtags by posts and views by country over 7, 30 or 90 days, and Creator Search Insights shows how many people searched a topic in the last 7 days. Both were free on 5 October 2026; Creator Search Insights needs a TikTok login. Our free trend tracker lists the fastest-rising TikTok searches every morning.

How do I track trends on TikTok?

Check two things each week: what people search (Creator Search Insights) and what people post (Creative Center hashtags and videos). Search moves first: "gumbo file" went from a daily reading of 3,155 on 5 September 2026 to 259,470 on 5 October. Use the phrases people type, not TikTok's pooled topic labels, and compare each search's latest reading with its own history before you act.

Does TikTok have a trend tracker?

Yes, two. Creative Center at ads.tiktok.com shows trending hashtags and videos with posts and views, and Creator Search Insights in the TikTok app and at tiktok.com/csi shows search counts per topic with up to 180 days of history. Neither has an export or an API.

Is Exploding Topics good for TikTok trends?

It is good for spotting product trends on Google and checking them on TikTok. Its TikTok add-on costs $59 a month on top of a plan from $39, and it shows views, posts and likes, not TikTok searches. See Exploding Topics for TikTok for how its examples look in TikTok search.

What is the difference between a trend tracker and social listening?

A trend tracker shows what is rising across TikTok or your niche. Social listening tools such as Brandwatch, Brand24 and Storyclash track mentions of your brand, keywords or creators. Brandwatch's TikTok source, for example, needs you to connect your own account and indexes mentions of your handle.

Can I track TikTok trends in ChatGPT or Claude?

Not on their own: neither has TikTok's numbers built in. Connected to a TikTok data source through MCP, they can pull search counts and curves for your niche. TokConnect does this with a free plan of 50 credits, and paid plans from $49 a month as of 5 October 2026.
