- ChatGPT can analyze TikTok comments you paste or upload, but it can't fetch them from a link: TikTok's robots.txt blocks ChatGPT-User, and ChatGPT's analysis sandbox makes no web requests.
- Uploads suit big batches: spreadsheets up to about 50MB, 512MB per file, and 3 uploads a day on Free (OpenAI, checked 30 September 2026).
- Collection is where analyses fail: our example video had 1,913 comments, TikTok serves them in pages, and 139 of the 149 we pulled had hidden replies.
- Ask for themes, not a positive or negative score. Only 6% of our 149 comments were complaints, yet 29% asked for a scent the launch didn't include.
- Weight by likes: 10 comments about one missing scent held 53% of all likes in the sample.
Yes, ChatGPT can analyze TikTok comments, but only the comments you give it. It can't open a TikTok video and fetch the comments itself. Paste a batch into the chat or upload them as a CSV or spreadsheet, and ChatGPT will sort them into themes, count them and chart them. What it can't do on its own is collect them: a popular video has thousands of comments, TikTok loads them in pages, and the replies sit behind "View replies" on each one.
That gap matters. On 30 September 2026 we pulled 149 comments and 21 replies from one Sol de Janeiro launch video and sorted them by hand. About 3 in 10 asked for a scent or product that wasn't in the launch, and 10 comments about one missing scent held 53% of all the likes. This page is for brands, sellers and agencies who want AI social listening on TikTok. Checked 30 September 2026 against OpenAI's help pages.
What can ChatGPT do with TikTok comments?
It does the reading and sorting well. The collecting is your job, unless a tool connected to ChatGPT does it for you. Here is the short version.
| Task | ChatGPT on its own | You paste or upload comments | Connected TikTok data |
|---|---|---|---|
| Get the comments from a video link | No. TikTok blocks ChatGPT's link-opening agent, and its analysis sandbox makes no web requests. | You collect them first. | Yes. The tool pulls them by video. |
| Sort comments into themes and count them | Nothing to sort. | Yes. Spreadsheets and CSV files are supported. | Yes. |
| Read replies | No. | Only replies you copied or exported. | Yes, thread by thread. |
| Weight by likes, sort by date | No. | Only if your file has those columns. | Yes. Every comment carries its likes, reply count and time. |
| Repeat next week across many videos | No. | Start over each time. | Ask again. |

Can ChatGPT analyze TikTok comments from a link?
No. Paste a TikTok link and ask for a comment summary, and ChatGPT has no reliable way to get the comments. Two published rules explain why.
First, TikTok's robots.txt, the file that tells bots which pages they may visit, blocks ChatGPT-User, the OpenAI agent that opens links when you ask. It blocks GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot too. We read the copy the Internet Archive saved on 11 September 2026. OpenAI's accuracy page lists sites that opt out through robots.txt as a known reason ChatGPT can't get information.
Second, the part of ChatGPT that crunches files can't go online. OpenAI's data analysis page says its Python environment "cannot make external web requests or API calls," and tells you to upload the data or connect a source instead. So if ChatGPT gives you a comment summary for a link you pasted, ask it where the comments came from. Our page on whether ChatGPT can watch TikTok videos covers the video side of the same problem.
How do you paste or upload TikTok comments into ChatGPT?
Pasting works for one video and a few hundred short comments. Copy them from the app or tiktok.com, paste, and ask for themes. The limit is how much text one message holds. OpenAI's pricing page lists the most you can send to GPT Instant as about 12 pages of text on Free and about 40 on Plus. Our 149 comments were short, so they would fit easily. A few thousand would not.
Uploading a file is the better route for anything bigger. ChatGPT's data analysis reads .csv, .xls and .xlsx files, answers questions about them and draws tables and charts. The File Uploads FAQ sets the hard limits: 512MB per file, spreadsheets up to about 50MB depending on row size, 80 files every 3 hours, and 3 uploads a day on Free.
A comment file analyses best with one comment per row and these columns:
- Comment text, untouched, emojis and all.
- Likes, so the answer can weight what people agree with, not only what they post.
- Reply count and replies, as their own rows linked to the parent comment.
- Date, so you can compare launch day with a week later.
Getting that file is the hard part, since TikTok has no export button for comments on other people's videos. Our guide to exporting TikTok comments compares the extensions, scrapers and agent routes.
What goes wrong: volume, paging and replies
Most comment analyses go wrong before ChatGPT reads a word. They go wrong at collection, in three ways.
Volume
The Sol de Janeiro video had 1,913 comments. We read 149, about 8%, the slice TikTok serves first. That was enough to find the themes. It isn't enough to claim "the audience thinks X." Say which slice you read.
Paging
TikTok hands comments over a page at a time. Each of our pulls asked for 50, and the first page came back with 49. Scroll-and-copy has the same problem with no page numbers, so you can't tell if you skipped a stretch.
Replies
139 of the 149 comments had replies, 250 in all, and none of them show until you open each thread. That matters. The thread under a one-word "France ??" held 8 replies, and 4 of them said the candles were expensive. Commenters there put the price at 40 €, with "40€💀" and "c cher" ("it's pricey"). Price pushback barely shows in the top-level comments. It lives in the replies.
By comment count, requests for scent 71 were a side theme. By likes, the 10 comments about 71 held 3,148 of the 5,917 likes on everything we pulled. The top comment alone, "IMMEDIATELY NEED A 71 CANDLE," had 2,057. A paste without like counts loses that.
Example: 149 comments on a Sol de Janeiro launch video
We picked a public brand account and its most-watched recent post: Sol de Janeiro's glass candle launch, posted 22 September 2026. By 30 September it had 2.2 million plays, 134,400 likes, 11,587 saves and 1,913 comments. The caption names three scents: Cheirosa 40, 62 and 59.
We found it with the brand's profile and recent posts, pulled three pages of comments and opened three reply threads. Then we sorted every top-level comment into one theme by hand. We did not run ChatGPT on them.
| Theme | Comments | Share | Likes on them | What people wrote |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Asks for another scent or product | 43 | 28.9% | 3,702 | "IMMEDIATELY NEED A 71 CANDLE" · "Where is 68???" · "Body scrubs next please" |
| Purchase intent | 34 | 22.8% | 562 | "GETTING IT RN" · "Already bought all three" · "Sorry wallet, thank you SDJ!!" |
| Questions: price, where to buy, shipping | 31 | 20.8% | 109 | "How much are they" · "Will they be in the uk" · "Doesn't ship to Ireland ?" |
| Praise | 26 | 17.4% | 60 | "Love the 62 scent always use it" · "Obsessed" · "I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS" |
| Complaints and pushback | 9 | 6.0% | 232 | "I see we've run out of ideas" · "Still no number 50 body oil huh?" |
| Other (PR requests, jokes) | 6 | 4.0% | 1,252 | "Can I have pr" |
Data: public TikTok comments via TokConnect, 149 top-level comments in three pages plus 21 replies, pulled 30 September 2026. Coded by hand, one theme per comment. Commenter names removed. Every comment with its theme.
Three things a brand team could act on this week:
- The launch skipped the scents people asked for. 68 came up in 13 requests, 71 in 8 and 48 in 6. None of them is a candle yet. The brand did reply to the top 71 comment, praising the scent without saying whether a 71 candle is coming.
- Buyers were ready but stuck. Purchase intent plus price and where-to-buy questions made 65 comments, 43.6% of the sample. Many named a country: the UK, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Canada, Italy. One pinned comment with prices and stockists per market would answer dozens of them.
- Price is a replies problem. Only a few top-level comments joked about cost. The French thread is where people said it outright.
TikTok sentiment analysis or themes: which should you ask for?
Ask for themes. A plain positive-or-negative score would call this video a hit: only 9 of 149 comments, 6%, were complaints. That's true and not very useful. It hides the 43 requests for missing scents and the 31 people asking how to buy.
Whoever does the sorting, you or ChatGPT, give it named buckets that match a decision: praise, complaints, questions, purchase intent and requests. Tell it to count each, add up the likes per theme and quote two or three comments per theme word for word. Then spot-check the quotes against your file. ChatGPT can misread slang, mixed languages and sarcasm. Our sample was in English, Italian, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Russian.
If you listen to a brand every week rather than one video, our TikTok social listening guide sets up a routine, and the comment finder guide shows how to search comment text across many videos.
Do this in TokConnect
The connected route skips the copying. In TokConnect you ask in plain words, and it pulls the comments and replies for you, then summarises them. The same account works inside ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor if you'd rather ask there; our ChatGPT setup guide has the steps.
Ask: "Pull the top 150 comments and the biggest reply threads on Sol de Janeiro's candle launch TikTok and sort them into themes." When we ran those calls on 30 September 2026, they found the video in the brand's recent posts and returned 149 comments in three pages, each with its likes, reply count and time, plus 21 replies from three threads. That was enough to find the 68 and 71 requests and the price pushback above.
What to do next: run it on your own launch post and your closest competitor's, then compare which theme leads on each.

Sort the top 150 comments and replies on [TikTok video link] into praise, complaints, questions and purchase intent, with counts, likes and two quotes each.

How we got these numbers
All pulls were made on 30 September 2026 through TokConnect, 9 calls in all: the brand's public profile, its 15 most recent posts, the video's details, three pages of comments at 50 per page and the replies on three comments (the top comment, "France ??" and "How much are they"). We picked the post with the most comments among the recent ones.
We coded each top-level comment into one theme by hand. When a comment fit two, complaints came first, then requests, questions, purchase intent and praise. Asks for 40, 62 or 59 counted as purchase intent, since those scents are in the launch. Non-English comments were translated before coding. The sample is TikTok's first 149 comments, not a random draw, so treat the shares as a read of the most visible comments. We did not run ChatGPT on this data and show no ChatGPT output. OpenAI's limits come from its help and pricing pages, checked the same day.
Frequently asked questions
Can ChatGPT read TikTok comments from a link?
No. TikTok's robots.txt blocks ChatGPT-User, the agent that opens links for you, and OpenAI says ChatGPT's data analysis environment cannot make web requests or API calls. Paste the comments, upload them as a file, or connect a TikTok data tool that pulls them.
How do I do sentiment analysis on TikTok comments?
Collect the comments with their like counts and replies, upload them to ChatGPT as a CSV or spreadsheet, and ask it to sort each comment into named themes such as praise, complaints, questions and purchase intent, with counts, likes per theme and quotes. Check the quotes against your file. Themes tell you more than a positive or negative score.
How many TikTok comments can I upload to ChatGPT?
OpenAI's File Uploads FAQ allows spreadsheets up to about 50MB, depending on row size, and 512MB for any file. Free users get 3 uploads a day; others get up to 80 files every 3 hours. Pasting is tighter: the pricing page lists about 12 pages of text per message for GPT Instant on Free.
Can ChatGPT see replies to TikTok comments?
Only replies you give it. TikTok hides replies behind each comment's thread, so a copy of the comment list usually leaves them out. In our example, 139 of 149 comments had replies, and the price complaints were mostly in them.
What is AI social listening on TikTok?
Using AI to read what people say about a brand or product in TikTok comments, captions and searches, then group it into themes you can act on. The AI does the reading; you still need a way to collect the comments, such as an export or a connected data tool. See our TikTok social listening guide.
Can I export TikTok comments to a spreadsheet?
Not from TikTok itself for other people's videos. Browser extensions, scrapers and TikTok data tools can save them as CSV. Our export guide compares the options.
